To think some people have to work harder

To be treated well and acknowledged?
I was thinking of this the other day. I knew a girl at college who was perfectly nice but always had to work harder to be liked, to get a text back, to be thought of, to be treated well.
I have also found myself being on that side. Aibu to think this?

Sometimes people respect you more when you distance yourself I find....

People who "try" too hard can appear very high maintenance and needy.

It's better to be yourself, everyone else is taken, as they say.
