To think our care system is just so lacking

Just that. Elderly parents been married 65 years in late 80’s. One parent has high care needs that neither we or social services are able to source. Only option is residential care 20 miles away from home with other parent unable to drive. It is just so heartbreaking that there Seems to be no reasonable option to keep parents together after being soul mates for almost 70 years. It is literally killing them (and feels like it is me sometimes too).

@Feelingsosadandguilty it’s devestating to see couples split up in old age like this! We managed to find a residential home for my Nan that took both her and my grandad.

They essentially rented a flat, within a care home (all rooms were mini flats) and my band care was provided in house. They had a hairdressers and activities on site. Made the best of a bad situation all round.

I just wondered if that’s an option near you? Best of luck

Nans not band. Stupid autocorrect!

Sadly we live in a fairly rural area so this is not an option. Only care home close by charges extortionate fees, doesn’t accept social services payments or couples !! I do realise that part of the system problem is greedy owners that know the areas and can charge as they like. Just think in this time of “caring for the elderly`’ is as everything else and so postcode dependant.
