What the fuck just happened?

I went to sleep an hour ago and just found myself standing by the light switch, light on. I was certain I saw a spider suspended from the ceiling and then I think I bolted to the light.

No sign of said spider and I can't remember being awake to notice, just suddenly recognising the spider and being by the light.

My toddler is asleep here too and luckily didn't wake.

Wtf? Did I see the spider or dream it or hallucinate it or what? Scared to go back to sleep. It seems a bit dark to have noticed one and also I was lying on my side (I know from the dribble) but I feel the adrenaline!

I once saw a blue robed figure standing by my bed in full daylight I looked away for a few seconds and when I looked back he had gone 😲
I knew he was from the dream state but it was still pretty weird!

How come you guys get to dream about hamsters while I'm stuck with grim reapers and spiders? That's hardly fair!

HauntedmessFrogbeaver · 30/10/2019 20:48

I've had this too. Oddly stopped when I read up on it and how common spider hallucinations are.

WTF0ver · 14/11/2019 00:52

It just happened to me 10 minutes ago! Saw a large black spider lowering itself down its web in front of me. Was almost asleep but that woke me up and then it was gone. Ha.

Need sleep now. Clearly.

This reminds me of something I saw the other day:

You should call the spider “Cotton Eye Joe”. Because you want to know two things.

  • where did he come from?

And

  • where did he go? WHERE???

I get this sort of thing when stressed/overtired and usually something happens on my first nights sleep after 5 nightshifts in a row.
I usually wake up screaming at something unknown and it takes me a while to come to. Once, after those poor children died abroad from carbon monoxide poisoning and my DD was a similar age, it must have played on my mind because I was sleeping and suddenly found myself downstairs in front of the boiler in the kitchen in a state of panic. I was so convinced that turned the boiler off and opened all the windows. I didn't have a detector, and as you can't see or smell it, sense finally broke through the mist and I realised I'd been dreaming. Shut the windows - but left the boiler off - and went back to bed. Bought a detector next day, no leak.

Oh. I've often seen a spider lowering itself down its thread towards my face when I'm in bed. Then I realise that I'm lying on my front or my side, and it's dark.
I'll feel better next time, since I'll know there's lots of others hallucinating the same thing!

Something similar happens to me two or three times a week, but it’s as I’m going to bed and wide awake. I’m getting under the covers and I see a dark shape a few inches off to my left. There’s enough light coming in through the window that I think I can see something black dangling there. I’m convinced it’s a large spider, so I throw off the covers, turn on the light, and look around. There’s never anything there.

I am not really too bothered about spiders, but a few nights ago, I had bad night with thinking about a mouse in my kitchen. Me,and one of my three cats, tried to catch this mouse that he had brought it. I tried to catch it, my hunter cat pounced on it a few times, but we both failed to catch or kill it, and it then ran behind the fridge and a cupboard, The said cat got fed up with things, and so did I, so cat went to sleep on my bed, and so did I. and then I woke later, imagining that the mouse had come up into my bedroom, looking like a rat , and woke up in a panic, switching all the lights on,and checking everything in sight for this monster rat.

It's alright, don't worry.

What the fuck just happened?

I always get this when I've stayed up too late. Once I swear I saw a tarantula crawling across the curtains.
