No, i dont think you are. Our neighbours like to play 'who can pound up and down the stairs as many times as possible' most evenings. Which really winds me and dh up. luckily a 'sold' sign went up outside their house last week

We have noisy neighbours too..but ours are because of alcohol and the pubs closing...and their hot tub that vibrates through my whole house. They also seem to have some sort of bell that they ring when playing a game...don't know what game it is but it has rounds and that is when this bell is rung.

erm, people are entitled to do a reasonable amount of DIY in the evenings as long as he stops at a reasonable time.

Looking at the time of your post though I would say he was being unreasonable, 9 is far too late.

It depends really, if its the only time he can do it, and he doesn't stop too late, then yes YABU, but if it is often, and he continues til late into the night then no YANBU, remember to people with no children 9pm is not really that late, maybe you could have a quiet word and ask him to keep it to a reasonable hour, say up until 8:30ish?
Also self-employed doesn't mean he works whenever he wants, if you were a self-employed block paver you could only work daytime hours, so would not be being unreasonable to do home 'stuff' in the evening, it depends on his job really.

My next door neighbour works on (and revs) his bloody motor bike every night. I had to hold my husband back the night he started at 1am!

My neighbours nickname is "DIY Dan" for the very reason you are complaining, we have to deal with him hammering, banging and drilling at any time of the day from 7am til 10.30pm.

We also had to deal with it non-stop for two years after his girlfriend moved in.

DH & I have developed nervous ticks and our walls have dents from where we've banged them to yell at the d*ck to STFU with his DIYing.

My neighbour has children who come to stay with him most weekends. He doesn't make a racket when they are there.

In other ways he is a nice neighbour, just not very considerate in the evenings. The 1am incident was a one-off - so far anyway.

I just remembered my neighbours dog!! They shove it in the garden from 6:30 on a sunday morning, and it barks continuously. I shouted out of the window this week to 'shut that fucking dog up' low and behold they took it indoors (so if they heard me, they must have heard their dog )Maybe, a little 'will you stfu my kids are trying to sleep' will do the job??

Grrrrr , no, YAdefinatelyNBU! My neighbour is a bugger for this kind of thing. Since we moved in 10 years ago he has been doing up his house, but does he get it all done as quickly as possible?? Oh noooo not him, 10 years later and still going strong. He is amazingly stupid as although he knows we have a baby, he starts anytime between 10am and 3pm (usually 3) and has worked up until 8pm until recently. I wouldn't be so annoyed, but he's "disabled" (although not so disabled that he can't stand up a ladder knocking plaster off a wall while i'm trying to get dd to sleep in the room next to him) and home all day.
