To eat this ice cream?

Picked up the very last pot of Ben and Jerry's Phish Food in the supermarket freezer this afternoon - it was being ignored because there was a blob of ice cream on the outside of the pot.

I gave it a cursory inspection and bought it, took it home and wiped it off before putting it in my freezer - and although the plastic seal hasn't split, it has come away from the lid edge, hence a small blob of leakage.

It's ok to eat isn't it - it's less of an airtight seal for hygiene and more of an anti-leak seal isn't it, as there's no plastic seal under the lid? If it's been properly frozen it should be fine right...right? I doubt it's been on the shelf longer than a day, it sells out really fast.

I probably wouldn’t. More in case someone had interfered with it really.

It's likely to have defrosted at some point if it had leakage.

Needtobuildabridge · 27/10/2019 19:02

Phish food? I don't think I would have stopped to question it. It'll be fine, enjoy the ice cream 🤤😁

WhoisitnowRalph · 27/10/2019 19:02

I did wonder about tampering, but if I'm honest I'm more concerned about getting food poisoning from rancid ice cream!

I'd eat it. I'm actually eating one now Grin

I'm eyeing it suspiciously. I looooves phish food, it's always really soft (it's the marshmallow I think) so the leaked bit doesn't seem weird - I reckon it just got bumped or dropped and the lid pushed out the plastic collar and squoodged a bit out.

I'm super paranoid about food borne illness and hygiene, hence I ask. But ice cream rarely fills me with anxiety the way, say rice or chicken would. I just wanted a general MN consensus. Ta, I think I'll eat it.

I think it could have been messed with. Bin it.

Wehttam · 27/10/2019 19:49

Think of it as destiny telling you to watch your waistline 😂

Flairhead · 27/10/2019 19:50

You'll be fine! Get it eaten!

WhoisitnowRalph · 27/10/2019 19:53

Hahahaha oh my waistline (and my liver, and my lower spine, and my foot) would certainly thank me for swerving it!

Are there any recent tales of ice cream tampering? What are people injecting into foodstuffs these days? The seal wasn't broken, just sort of knocked loose. The lid is intact, it may have been squashed a little.

Meh! You've gotta die sometime. Might as well do it eating ice cream

OneHanded · 27/10/2019 19:56

I’d have eaten the entire tub by now I won’t lie 🤷🏼‍♀️😅

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 27/10/2019 19:59

Oh honestly GrinGrinGrin who goes round tampering with ice cream?!

I ate half of it. I'll let you know if I develop any open weeping sores or elephantitis of the goolies or anything.
