Around three months ago we bought a new Google Pixel 3a phone. It's a lovely phone, but last week I was sat in bed reading on it and scrolling when the screen spontaneously cracked in a single hairline crack from one side to the other in the middle of the screen. The noise of it made me jump and there seems to be no reason for it to just crack while scrolling. It hadn't been dropped or damaged, or gone through any extremes of temperature at the time or at any point in the day leading up to it.
I contacted Google Support to see if this has happened before or is a known fault with the phone. I've basically been told there's nothing they can do, my only option is to pay to replace the screen.
AIBU that this is a bit shit? They say they can't prove the crack wasn't caused by dropping it, but surely there would be other telltale marks on the phone if it had been damaged? There is not a scratch anywhere except this one thin crack. If this is going to constantly happen just from scrolling on the screen, it's surely not fit for purpose and I certainly can't afford to keep replacing the screen when I take care to look after it. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm still baffled as to how it happened in the first place!
