To move DS’s party time by 15 mins for the World Cup final?

It’s DS’s fourth birthday party next week. We’re having it at a big soft play. Format is 90 mins of play followed by 30 mins of food in the party room. All pretty standard.

The party is between 11:00 - 13:00. It’s also the day of the rugby World Cup Final, which will probably finish around 11. We’re thinking of (after checking with the soft play) pushing the party back to 11:15. We would love to watch the whole game as I imagine a lot of the other parents would. This would mean the party would be 75 mins of play and then 30 mins of food. I have all the parents phone numbers so could let them know easily.

My thoughts are that the other parents would probably either be grateful or indifferent. And that if we keep it at 11 we’d get a lot of kids turning up 15 minutes late anyway. I’m just a bit worried people might see it as weird or rude. What would you think if your child was attending?! Be really grateful for thoughts.

There is no way I'd miss the rugby final. I'd change the time if I were you.

Tojigornot · 26/10/2019 18:22

I think a lot of people would appreciate that.

PrettyPurse · 26/10/2019 18:25

Definitely change it. Will 15mins be enough though? By time it's actually finished, shoes on, in car, drive, out car etc etc

I think half an hour

Yeahnahyeah1 · 26/10/2019 18:27

I’d definitely do it, the final is a big deal!

Sandsnake · 26/10/2019 18:50

Thanks all! That’s what I was hoping people would say Grin.

I think I’ll officially put it back to 11:15 but say to people that we’ll understand if they’re later than that.

YANBU! Definitely move it. Like a PP said probably half an hour rather than 15 minutes.

It’s a massive massive deal for the rugby fans. My DP is fanatical and so pleased for England. I’m a Wales fan and I’ve been regretting all the trash talk I’ve been coming out with Blush.

Paraballa · 26/10/2019 18:52

I hate sport so would be Hmmas it will overrun, everyone will be late, and me and my child would be stuck waiting for you to arrive. But it's your party so you decide what goes

Buster72 · 26/10/2019 18:53

Be careful it doesn't go extra time and penalty shootout....make it 45 minutes later...
Expect a lot of miserable English supporters though...👍

LeftoverPizza · 26/10/2019 18:54

I’d do it if I were you

AlunWynsKnee · 26/10/2019 18:54

I would be very grateful if my team were in the final.

Actually I'll be watching it no matter who England are playing so I would be grateful anyway.

goodtoseeyou · 26/10/2019 18:56

@Buster72

Do they have a penalty shoot out in Rubgy? 🙈

goodtoseeyou · 26/10/2019 18:56

*rugby

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2019 18:59

I hate sport so would be Hmm as it will overrun, everyone will be late, and me and my child would be stuck waiting for you to arrive. But it's your party so you decide what goes

At least you'd know to expect it though.

And how late can the OP be anyway? The venue won't hold the slot forever if they have a party booked after hers.

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2019 19:01

goodtoseeyou it goes to extra time, then golden try (first to score a try) and then eventually the equivalent of a penalty shoot out (conversions).

SimonJT · 26/10/2019 19:02

Change the time.

I’m packing my son away Friday night so I can watch the rugby in peace (very drunk) on Saturday morning.

MoaningMinniee · 26/10/2019 19:03

I'm not sure what they do in Rugby if there's a tie at the end of 80 minutes either! I'll ask the Rugby Obsessive now...

FamilyOfAliens · 26/10/2019 19:04

I hate sport

Let’s hope none of your DC end up sporty then 🙄

MoaningMinniee · 26/10/2019 19:04

xposts Thanks @WorraLiberty Grin

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2019 19:07

You're welcome MoaningMinniee. I asked the rugby obsessive DS here Grin

confusedandemployed · 26/10/2019 19:08

Hell yeah! Move it, most parents will be delighted.
For a PP: if there's a draw there will be extra time, then I think sudden death and after that if it's still tied it'll be decided on a goal kicking competition.

Sandsnake · 26/10/2019 19:11

Nah, we certainly couldn’t go over so it will finish on time. And we’d definitely let people know and would be there to host for those who were there at 11.15.

Yeah move it. I’d be grateful and I’m not even an English rugby fan. I’ve literally made no personal plans this World Cup- the only plans have been my daughters and I’ve begrudgingly taken her places. I’m not missing the final for anything. Also rugby games can go to a penalty shoot out but it’s ridiculous and I’m not sure if that’s the case for a world cup final. Certainly unlikely, I don’t see it running over time next week (well not by much depending on the usual scrums/injuries).

Waveysnail · 26/10/2019 19:11

Try and get it changed 1-3

PotteringAlong · 26/10/2019 19:12

Definitely move it!
