I was listening to the radio earlier and a presenter was saying how she had lost her wedding ring and believed it had fallen between the floorboards. Someone else then asked listeners to text in things they have found under floorboards. Unfortunately my car journey was over before the texts were revealed :(

Not an aibu as such, just posting for traffic, has anyone ever found anything cool/unusual beneath the floorboards of their homes

A kitten! She was our kitten but still Grin She'd found a hole in the back of the cupboard under the stairs and somehow managed to end up stuck under the floorboards in the living room. We could hear her crying, obviously scared because she couldn't find her way back out, it was awful. My then-BF (now DH, and this story is partly why Smile) was amazing, tracked down where the sound was coming from and lifted carpet and floorboards to get her out. We have no luck with cats, he's had to rescue them from up trees and off the roof once as well, good job he's a softy Grin

DH took the floor up to try to sort out a problem in the house, and found a dogs skull. We have more floorboards to life, so wondering what else we'll find. The house is a couple of hundred years old, so who knows!

Unexpectedthird27 · 25/10/2019 18:13

Oooh we found a pre ww2 toy truck and little cars and some medicine bottles from 1935-38

L238 · 25/10/2019 18:23

Not behind floorboards but we took out an awful electric fire in our new place & found hundreds of fliers for someone’s memorial rave at a gay club in Vauxhall in 2007....
This was only last month so they’d been back there 12 years, at least 2 different owners in that time

BucketOfTheDetective · 25/10/2019 18:29

When a child my dad found a floor safe in a house we moved to...sadly it was empty 😭

willowmelangell · 25/10/2019 18:29

Once, a £20 note, in date. Woohoo!
10 years ago in a rented house, took a bath side off and found a Sinclair ZXspectrum, a mahoosive video player and a camera. Ooh burglary stash or what.

minniemoll · 25/10/2019 18:32

We found a stash of ammunition under the floorboards of a house we bought about 20 years ago. The vendor's ex-husband had been a policeman, I'm not sure whether these two facts were linked....

We never found the gun though!

EdWinchester · 25/10/2019 18:35

A mummified mouse.

BMW6 · 25/10/2019 18:37

An old silver bracelet for a child. Not found by us. but by previous homeowners.
They were superstitious and felt it should stay in the house. I bought a pretty little box for it to live in so it's still here in the lounge where it was found.

Pashazade · 25/10/2019 18:38

Several empty vodka bottles, only thing was we couldn't figure out how they got them in there, so we had to leave them there!

CokeAndCrispsAndDip · 25/10/2019 18:55

A huge stash of mouldy car lover magazines, carpet cut offs, old cigarette packets and a sausage roll wrapper. No treasure sadly

sweetpb · 25/10/2019 20:02

not floor boards but in the loft was a washable condom, a copy of madonna nude and books on depression - and a lot of other crap we had to take to the tip

Mordred · 25/10/2019 20:21

Not floorboards, but my room in a shared house I rented had £200 in used notes stashed the lining of the curtains. Old £20s, but easy to exchange at the bank. I was skint at the time, so thank you Universe!

Mordred · 25/10/2019 20:21

*stashed in the

An acquaintance was having her house refurbished a while ago, her builders found something underneath the floorboards. It was a voodoo doll with a photo of a man on the doll's face and needles stuck in all over the body. They had to get a priest in to bless the house and dispose of the doll safely otherwise the builders refused to finish the job.

Florence08 · 25/10/2019 20:36

Should the next occupant of our house ever take up the bathroom floorboards they will find a number of Mr Men books down there - found toddler DD sitting very quietly in bathroom one day posting them through the (large) gap in the floorboards. They were my lovely old Mr Mens circa 1970 something too!

By the time DD2 came along I’d learnt that very quiet meant up to no good..!

Bunchness · 25/10/2019 20:43

We found this photo under the floorboards in DS1 room.

I like to think it had been his room, although perhaps a builder popped it in there when he was working on the house when it was built in 1912.
We moved away two years ago and left a note under the floorboards to say it had been my son's room.
Love reading this stuff!

Whoever buys my house after me will find a pair of diamond earrings that I threw in an argument.

AliceLittle · 25/10/2019 20:48

A big kilner jar full of weed. For about 6 months hadn't noticed one of boards in the bedroom wasn't nailed down properly so we took a peek and I guess we found the previous tenant's forgotten secret stash. Grin

ThatsMyAddress · 25/10/2019 21:34

Not under the floorboards but on them Confused

When I pulled up the underlay to replace it I found the previous tenants had written over the entire rooms floorboards with permanent markers.

There were several MC raps about getting out of Durham prison and selling drugs Smile

Cocojumbo · 26/10/2019 00:39

Not floorboards but in the loft found a massive old fashioned bathtub just being placed in the middle of the attic. We all were wondering how on earth did someone managed to get it up there through the tiny hatch.

FastAway · 26/10/2019 00:49

1500 comics from the 70s.

Sold them for about £1500 and bought a shit car.

FastAway · 26/10/2019 00:51

150 comics sorry!!

starfishmummy · 26/10/2019 01:01

A small coal cellar!! We had noticed that neighbours had little doors in the back of their houses - we're on a hill so the door would lead to below floor level - and assumed they were something of the sort but our house had been extended so there was no door. We had to have the extension demolished and rebuilt and the builders found the cellar which contained assorted junk including two old flymo mowers (no lawn here) and some bottles and demijohns of home brew. They threw most of it in the skip but for some reason left the home brew in there when they sealed it back up again!!
