AIBU to tell our cleaner it's not working out

We got a new cleaner just over a month ago on a fortnightly basis. The first week she turned up ok, the next time she was due to come she sent me a message the night before saying she was sick. So she came the following week instead. Today was meant to be her third visit and she has just sent me a message 5 minutes before she was due to arrive saying her uncle has been taken into hospital. She has offered to come on Saturday morning instead but we'll all be at home then and I don't like having a full house when someone is trying to clean as you end up feeling in the way.

So AIBU to tell her that our arrangement isn't working for us and ask for our key back? I really need someone reliable and whilst I appreciate that everyone gets ill sometimes, she has only turned up for 1 out of 3 visits so far....

Her uncle has been taken into hospital?! And that stops her coming to work how exactly?

That's the worst excuse ever.

Yep, knock this on the head.

regmover · 23/10/2019 10:51

Yes, don't have her back.

AllFourOfThem · 23/10/2019 10:51

Yanbu.

AmIThough · 23/10/2019 10:53

YANBU

Catbell82 · 23/10/2019 10:54

Yep! She says she has to look after her Aunt....

The Aunt With No Hands!

Wowee.

purplepalace · 23/10/2019 11:23

Presumably she cleans for you fur 2 or 3 hours?

I'm sure her aunt can manage without her for that time.

Get rid

MzHz · 23/10/2019 11:26

Don’t give her the heads up, tell her to come on Saturday and when she does tell her that it’s not working for you, give her half the fee and get the key back

NearlyGranny · 23/10/2019 11:26

YANBU. Knock the arrangement on the head. Tell her sorry, you need reliable and consistent and she clearly has other commitments which make her unsuitable. Don't even have a pang about it.

NotSorry · 23/10/2019 11:28

@MzHz Why would OP give her half the fee?

Just get rid OP

HouseOfGoldandBones · 23/10/2019 11:33

I would just send her a message saying that she seems to have a lot on just now, so you'll just leave it.

bluebella4 · 23/10/2019 11:44

YANBU. She sounds very disorganised if anything!

MzHz · 23/10/2019 20:23

Because it’s only fair to pay for the time it takes to get there and it is cheaper and less hassle to get the key back than to get the locks changed

NotSorry · 23/10/2019 21:23

makes sense
