To be fed up of getting colds

I started a new job last month and was ill in the 3rd week to the point I had to take a day off cos I couldn't keep my eyes open. Before I was even over that, I developed a chesty cough that I am still battling through and now I have an awful cold that I can feel developing into a sinus infection.

I've been trying so hard to avoid getting ill, washing my hands as much as possible, using antibacterial gel at my desk and trying to eat more fruit to boost my immune system but clearly it's not enough.

Even more frustrating is I can actually pinpoint where I got this cold. A colleague sneezed 3 times in the lift and I just knew I was going to catch it.

I just can't afford to be ill like this all the time. I work full time, have 2 kids to look after, studying for a degree and have a health condition. I can't manage all this when I'm ill.

I'm on annual leave but back in tomorrow, would it be unreasonable to call in sick if I'm still sneezing? Don't want to pass it on like my colleague did.

Also how can I stop getting ill all the time? Do any of you never get ill and what are your secrets?

I’m bumping this for you as I don’t have the answer but I’m hoping someone else does.

Your colleague sneezed in the lift and you know that's how you caught it?
I sympathise with you you feeling rubbish but that's just ridiculous.
You have no idea how you caught it.

You haven't got sick 3 times in 3 weeks, you had a cold that went down to your chest and now you've probably got a superimposed bacterial sinus infection and need antibiotics and some multivitamins. Eating "a few fresh vegetables" every now and then won't cut it.

Berocca vitamin c if I feel run down. Corsodyl mouthwash if I feel that scratchy feeling of a cold in the early stages in back of throat. Kills the germs which enter through throat.

You have a lot on your plate and you’re probably stressed, stress can run down your immune system as can exhaustion.

The only winters I didn't suffer with colds was when I had a gym membership! My local gym has a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi... and of course a lovely pool! I always went for a swim and than relaxed making the most of what was on offer!

I have 're joined this year as kids are older and can stay at home for an hour. I hope to keep the sniffles away!
I also think plenty of good quality unprocessed food will help your immune system.

Sympathies as I’ve had the same but the above poster is right. It’s most likely the same illness that went to your chest then sinuses.

I don’t have many answers as I’ve tried vitamin D, healthy diet, hand washing, etc.

The only thing that makes a difference I find to these things not progressing is rest and sleep and no stress. Easier said than done.

I've been ill with a similar thing. My head aches so much and I can't function normally. Started with a sore throat
