Following on from the "pass the parcel" thread, where the rights and wrongs of the birthday child winning were fiercely debated, let's discuss that other classic children's party game, pinning the tail on the donkey, or other beast. I want to get the game right, in case any DCs of MNetters attend our next party.
(If you don't know the answer, write your choices down, put on a blindfold, and stick in a pin.)
- What picture do you use if you don't use a donkey?
- Should the birthday child go first, last, or anywhere?
- Do you make the children form an orderly queue, or do you say "who wants to go next?"
- What do you use to cover eyes?
- How many times should you spin them?
- If a child is nervous about being blindfolded, would you let them do it with eyes closed?
- Have you ever used an actual pin, to make the game live up to its name?
- If it's a dead heat, with distance measured with a ruler, would you give both the winners prizes, or make them do it again?
- If a child gets it in exactly the right place, especially if they stride up confidently, would check their blindfold and make them do it again?
