Two months ago I had a very informal interview that went well with a non-profit organization. I hadn’t heard anything up until two weeks ago but I’ve been told things go slowly there as they await approval. I was offered the position, accepted it and asked pay rate and was told it was the amount we discussed. Set my start date as last week and told me they would do background check & fingerprints.

I showed up last week and worked one day, the rest of the week they were off for fall break. While there no fingerprints or mention of background check. In fact, I filled out no paperwork at all, didn’t clock or sign in - nothing. No tax information taken. I texted my boss when I left and asked if he needed me this week, and he told me to show up at another office today (last week I worked at the warehouse).

Today my boss was gone but they had me set up at an office desk. I filled no paperwork, no forms, nothing. They had no idea what time I was supposed to work to do I worked what I did last week, a half day. I asked the office supervisor if she had any idea about paperwork and she said she wasn’t privy to any information but that she’d ask him.

I texted him when I got home today and he said could I work Tuesday & Thursday at the warehouse. I agreed but I have no idea what I’m going to do (last week he passed me off to someone else in the warehouse who had no idea I was there to help!)

I have no problem with working where they need me but I have no way to track my hours and no paperwork still! My boss has been out recently for major surgery and I know is playing catch up and worse still I think he is in real pain and probably just getting through the days. He knows though this isn’t volunteer! I know it’s not dodgy but this is crazy, right?!

Have you got the information on you should someone want it?
can you ask when pay day is?
can you make a note of your shifts yoruself?

not sure how it is on your country but if you start a job in NZ without a signed contract it bypasses any contract restrictions

Have you got the pay in writing?
