SOS.
Landlord gave us notice last week. Completely out of the blue. Upshot is we've found a house and have a preliminary moving date of 1st November. Landlord of new house keen to get us in asap.
I've spent all weekend packing up and clearing but it just seems so daunting and uphill.
I've got 11 days.
Any hints/tips/hacks to make it more bearable???

If you've not packed clothes yet, my best tip is use an elastic band to tie hangers (with clothes still on) together and then in a black bag (tied at the top). When you get to the new house you can just unwrap and hang straight up again. I've moved many times and only did this on my last move, saved loads of fine!

@APeakyBlinder

I LOVE this idea! Why didn't I think of this when I was moving? Damnit.

No ideas sorry op other than label boxes well so you can put them in the rooms they are needed in at the new house.

Are you moving yourself or using removal company?

@ineedaholidaynow
Going to have to do it ourselves, getting married in 3 weeks and money is so tight!

When you label your boxes, put the label on the side not the top - this is probably obvious to most people except me -but I thought I'd mention it anyway! So when your boxes are stacked up you don't have to move them all to see what's written on the label.

Take a photo of your gas/elec meter from your old house/new house (if you have to give meter readings).

Have one box with all your essentials for the first day or two so you don't have to look through everything just to find your phone charger etc.

Don't pack the kettle/cups/teabags etc until last!

Good luck OP.

Any overlap in getting new keys before having to be out of the old place or is it a same day move?

My best tip is round up your most sentimental bits and your very important documents/paperwork (that you won’t immediately need) and store it at your mums, sisters, a friend or whoever. These things can easily get lost or damaged and it’s less stressful to have them safely stashed.

Pack a suitcase a day or two before moving day. Put enough clothes for a day or two in plus essential toiletries, medicines, chargers. Live out of it like it’s the only thing you’ve got.

Get a quote for a man with a van to move the big stuff. Works out cheaper than hiring a van yourself sometimes.
