I'm trying to get pregnant, but there's so much info online and I have no idea what is going on down there to be honest, so apologies for TMI.

We've not been trying long, but I think I've just come onto my period. However, this is the first period I've ever had that's been different. The blood is darker, there's much less blood (normally my first day is really heavy, this time there is only like bleeding and its dark brown), and there's little stringy clot type things in my blood as well, and I've never had clots before. In fifteen years of period, I've never had a variation, so I'm not sure what this means. Dr Google has been inconclusive so I've come to mumsnet for some anecdata.
Aibu, to come and ask for your help, because idk what is happening!

Is your period due? Is there much blood? Could it be implantation bleeding?

Stoptheworldandmelt · 21/10/2019 10:40

Period is due, a day or so late, with a lot less blood than I'd expect. I don't wanna get my hopes up, but I'm not sure what an implantation bleed is like.

I would do a pregnancy test in case it is implantation bleeding. This is when the fertilised embryo causes a little disruption of the lining of the womb where it burrows in and is a normal part of early pregnancy.

Sunshinegirl82 · 21/10/2019 10:47

I'd do a pregnancy test, if negative and you don't have a "proper" period I'd do another in a week just to be sure. If they're both negative then I'd just put it down to a weird period and see what happens next month!

Have you just come off contraception? That can make things go a bit weird for a while.

Mrsgogginsthe3rd · 21/10/2019 10:48

I’ve been pregnant quite a few times and have had implantation bleeding twice, it was literally just v light streaks/spotting once then quite a lot of brown mucusey discharge streaked with blood the second. I do sometimes get both of these before my actual period starts though. In the nicest possible way you don’t really need to bother asking on here. If you’re periods due just do a test. I’d recommend going to boots and getting the first response two pack and doing both of them. Fingers crossed. If you’re not it could be just a normal variation that you haven’t noticed before - you’re super aware when you’re ttc and there’s things that may have happened before that you’ve just not noticed. Good luck again.

EdinaMonsoon · 21/10/2019 10:49

Have you recently come off birth control? If so, that may well affect your period & the type of bleed you might experience.

Good luck in your TTC OP.

Passthecherrycoke · 21/10/2019 10:51

If it’s your period due date, it won’t be implantation bleeding. I imagine it’s just that you’re paying attention. I’ve never been as in tune with my body as when TtC

Whattodoabout · 21/10/2019 10:51

I only had implantation bleeding with one of my pregnancies and it looked very much like the start of a period. It was light pink and some brown too, enough to need a pad so I put one on and went to bed. When I woke up the next day the bleeding had completely stopped so I knew to test.

Implantation bleeding is usually fairly light and either pink or brown in colour, it doesn’t last long and is usually a day or so before period is due.

Take a test.

Oysterbabe · 21/10/2019 10:52

When you aren't ttc you don't pay close attention to what your period looks like or how your body feels. Suddenly you are and it all seem different and new. I thought I was pregnant every month when ttc but actually wasn't for the first 5.

NaviSprite · 21/10/2019 11:30

My implantation bleeding looked like a thick/stringy period and it lasted two days so I just thought it was a weird period whilst my body sorted itself out after coming off contraceptives (contraception made my periods really random and always super heavy for one day then light for about two days).

It could be that it’s a period whilst your body is adjusting or it might be implantation bleeding, as a PP suggested a test would be advisable - I got myself four in total when I was pregnant with my twins, did two whilst I was on the ‘weird period’ and they came back negative (my body never seems to produce a high amount of HCG) did the other two about two weeks later and got a very faint positive line.

I realised I’d known I was pregnant from the moment the eggs (I had twins two separate fertilised eggs) implanted as one night I just weirdly felt it and started crying (happy crying) in bed next to DH - he was snoring away and I just cuddled up to him!

Fingers crossed OP but don’t be too disheartened if it’s not happened just yet Smile

Stuckinanutshell · 21/10/2019 11:37

If you’ve just come off the pill it could be that. Mine was heavier and thicker when I stopped contraception.

I agree with the above - implantation for me was a couple of days light pink spotting and then some brown. Lasted 4 days but was very light.

Raspberrytruffle · 21/10/2019 11:41

Dont quote me but it may be implantation bleeding?

Stoptheworldandmelt · 21/10/2019 14:38

I've not come off the pill, I've had the coil removed but this isn't the first cycle since. I'll take a pregnancy test in the morning, but I've just emptied my mooncup again and I've never had anything like this. I'm sure it's not just me not paying attention before, it's really strange.

I’m having the same thing today except mine is more period colour . Had one episode where I’ve wiped and there seemed to be more blood than I’d visualised implantation to be so i felt very sad . But since around 11 I haven’t had anymore bleeding so I’m confused too. Can anyone shed some light ? I’ve had my coil removed . We are TTC number 1. I’ve had most pregnancy symptoms - more so the last couple of days . I’m so confused and feeling very sad now :(

Passthecherrycoke · 21/10/2019 16:03

What’s your cycle like? When did you ovulate? Implantation is quite unlikely so late in your cycle. If it’s the time your period is due and it’s blood, it’s unfortunately More likely to just be your period

The other thing is when you’re TTC there is potential that part fertilisation has taken place but not successfully. This might make your period different to usual.
