Help with film from the 80s

I'm trying to remember a film from the 80's - at least, that's when I remember it from.
I was a children's film, and my mum recorded it off the tv for us.
It was about a rabbit - large man sized white rabbit who would vanish and reappear.
I think there was a tea party or birthday party in it.
The was a child the rabbit befriended.
It was with actors, not animation.

Not Alice in wonderland obvs.

Might have the word 'big' connected

Is it North - a Rob Reiner film with Bruce Willis as the man in the rabbit suit?

I can only think of Who Framed Roger Rabbit but that does have animation. Sorry

It's about context I think, effects were so basic back then, we took no notice, but looking back it's hard to imagine how it wouldn't freak you out, he is vaguely horrifying.
