I know it's not an AIBU but I'm posting for traffic as I'd really like some advice.
I suffer from migraines which have gotten worse over the past few years. I've seen doctors and have been prescribed pain medications such as codeine and triptans. I also have OTC migraine medication.
I have reached a point where I'm getting 2-3 migraines a week. They are absolutely debilitating and usually result in me curled up in the bathroom vomiting. The medication only works sometimes now. Mostly the migraine goes after 1 or 2 days but then not long after another one starts.
I have started to wonder if it's due to the overuse of pain medication to treat the migraine and that I'm getting some kind of kickback headache. So since my last migraine I haven't taken any pain medications at all. For the first day I had the worst headache, absolutely splitting. After sleeping for most of the day/night it eased up a bit and for the next two days I've had a niggling background headache.
I have other symptoms like fatigue, grumpiness and anxiety. I'm constantly scared of getting another migraine.
I guess what I want is to hear from others who've had experience of this. I've read online that it can take 2 months for symptoms of medication overuse to improve. I don't know for sure that this is what I'm experiencing but I can't imagine the amount of pain killers I've been taking for the length I've been taking them is doing me any good.
