(TMI) to be scared of a pessary??

Honestly, I sound like such a wimp (I am really!). I'm just squeamish more than anything.

I got prescribed a pessary to use for thrush (I'm 30 weeks pregnant). I got it days ago but have got so worked up every night so far that I haven't used it. I feel so squeamish about having medication up there dissolving.

Looking for reassurance so I can stop being a big baby really & get on with it.
Can you feel it when it's in? Does it hurt when it dissolves? Am I being ridiculous? Grin

I had one for induction of labour. I am a total phobic (not exaggerating) about gynae stuff but it was fine. I couldn't really feel anything when it was in, but tbh was in labour so other things to worry about!

Why don't you make a deal with yourself: use it but set a timer for 30 mins. If you feel bad after that time you will take it out. And try to distract yourself during the half-hour.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 17/10/2019 09:10

Sorry, I had a pessary for induction, obviously it didn't contain thrush medication Grin

BringOnTheScience · 17/10/2019 09:10

No, you can't feel it at all.
No, it does not hurt in the slightest.
Yes, you are being ridiculous!

Get it in there. Treat your thrush. Feel better! 😀

TheDarkPassenger · 17/10/2019 09:12

You can definitely feel it bubbling away but it’s not horrific. It doesn’t hurt putting it up at all just like a tampon really

gnushoes · 17/10/2019 09:13

You've had a penis going in and will shortly have a baby coming out. I think a tiny pessary is the least of your problems! Grin

PonteLaCorona · 17/10/2019 09:13

Am I being ridiculous?
In the kindest possible way, yes you are.
Why put up with thrush? Do it now!

Also, you're pregnant, so surely have had much worse things up there... dissolving... Grin

Tableclothing · 17/10/2019 09:14

Can you feel it when it's in? Does it hurt when it dissolves? Am I being ridiculous?

No.
No.
A little bit, yes.

Wait until night time, push it in with a finger as far as comfortably possible, go to sleep, thus giving it time to work.

I find it interesting that you're more squeamish about medication than you are about a yeast infection....

Trumpleton · 17/10/2019 09:14

You might be able to feel it a little but getting rid of thrush will be worth it!!
If I remember correctly it's akin to a tampon. Can't feel it doing anything. A long time since I had one for thrush but also had for labour induction and once it was in, didn't think about/notice its presence!
You'll be fine and so relieved when thrush gets better! Get well soon Flowers

spice3 · 17/10/2019 09:19

Thanks everyone. I've been told by my DP enough times I'm being ridiculous now too so I'm going to get it done 😂

Funnily enough I've never used a tampon either for squeamish reasons as well!!

Put it in at night if you’re that bothered about feeling it. It’ll be gone by morning.

Misty999 · 17/10/2019 10:04

You can't even feel it and no it doesn't hurt.

Glitterb · 17/10/2019 10:13

It doesn’t hurt and isn’t any worse than a tampon! I would much rather do that then put up with thrush!

Skyejuly · 17/10/2019 10:56

I totally understand I nearly was hyperventilating when I done a thrush pessary! I was so shaky.

Do it at bedtime so you can stay laying down. Dont panic its absolutely fine. You wont feel it especially if you go to bed straight away but I totally understand I felt shaky knowing it was there.

Honestly though they are the best for thrush they work fast x

Skyejuly · 17/10/2019 10:58

It's a different type of squeamish. I've had 4 kids naturally yet pessarys give me the jitters. I dont know why!

labazsisgoingmad · 17/10/2019 11:11

used loads of times dont hurt put in at night gives it more time to work you may wish to use a pant liner for a few days as it can stain your knickers when it drips out

spice3 · 17/10/2019 14:52

Thanks everyone.

Can I also ask - I think I have a few cuts on the inside of my vagina - will this matter? Will that make it hurt when it dissolves?

edwinbear · 17/10/2019 15:13

I am very squeamish about this stuff too and can't use tampons for the same reason. My trick, is to ask DH to insert it for me Blush it works!

TheQueef · 17/10/2019 15:18

YABU.
In ten weeks it will be action stations for your vag so best to toughen up now.
It won't hurt, if vagina has cuts don't use the plastic stick use a tampon or finger to put it up.
Cream on first.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 17/10/2019 15:18

I hear you! I don’t even use tampons as I hate this kind of stuff.

Put it in at night just before you go to bed so it has more time to work

Get your DP/DH to put it in for you?

Use a bit of lube to get in it if you need to.

Honestly it won’t hurt, the thought of it is worse I promise

Simkin · 17/10/2019 15:23

It will be blissful relief if you've got thrush!

KUGA · 17/10/2019 15:37

TBH it`s only like using a tampon.

DontCallMeShitley · 17/10/2019 15:49

As everyone has said already, but be prepared for when you get up in the morning and it has dissolved, can be a bit messy.

AliceAbsolum · 17/10/2019 15:53

Wondering why you have cuts inside your vagina? If they're open wounds then the pessaries may not be a good idea 😕
