To expect a mattress to last more than 20 months

Bigregrets19 · 17/10/2019 00:24

We purchased a silent night mattress last Feb.. I remember when as it was just before dd was due.
It was only a cheap deal in argos about £190 I think for a double.
Never expected it to last long but less than 2 years?!
Every time you move it makes a horrible crunching springy sound. It's lumpy and overall crap.

Its always been turned over, spun etc.

Thing is I've lost the receipt otherwise I'd be ringing and complaining
Im so annoyed. Lack of sleep due to pregnancy and ill toddler topped off by being so bloody uncomfortable

We haven't got the funds for an expensive mattress due to moving house recently and other things popping up but we could save.
But atm we could only get another one around 250. Any suggestions

Have you checked your email? Argos often email the receipts! I would expect a mattress to last longer. Perhaps contact the manufacturer?

Honestly, ikeas are great.

I got one of their basic ones in 2017 (approx £80 for a double) when I was in a bind and it’s fantastic.

It’s basically a slab of foam but somehow it’s the perfect mix of soft but supportive. No springs to worry about creaking either!

We’ll be upgrading to a king size in the next year or two and I’ll be getting another despite being able to get something fancier.

Sadly, I think this is a case of "you get what you pay for." I bought a wonderful queen size memory foam mattress for my guest room off Amazon for about 300. It's incredibly comfortable.

Bigregrets19 · 17/10/2019 00:30

I delete all my emails.. Have tried to look :(

Ds had a foam. Ikea one and he didn't like it. I've just got him a sprung one from there and he likes that.

But I have a memory foam in my head.

Yes aqua I kind thought that too.

Just couldn't of come at a worse time.
Think I may go sleep in dds room on the spare bed

@bigregrets1

You poor thing! You need to make sure you're getting proper sleep.

Bigregrets19 · 17/10/2019 00:40

I will. The spare bed is comfy ☺

We got a Nectar double for under £250 from Wowcher. They are “renewed” which means they have refurbished the outer layers and kept the core on a return or ex display, but we really don’t care. You wouldn’t know and the mattress has been amazing. Haven’t woken up with lower backache since we had it.
Wowcher also do other companies mattress like the Emma etc so might be worth looking in to?

We have an IKEA Hyllestad mattress for £250 (double). We had the Firm but I found it too firm for me, so I used the IKEA 99 day mattress exchange policy to switch to the Firm Medium. Had it 3 years and it's going strong. It's pocket sprung with a memory foam top.

Mephisto · 17/10/2019 00:46

*90 day not 99

NewtonPulsifer · 17/10/2019 00:47

Just a thought, if your ordered it online maybe your Argos account shows past purchases?

Bigregrets19 · 17/10/2019 00:50

Must of read your mind.

Just found it by logging in. It was actually after dd born. Purchased end March 2018

Gonna contact argos first then silent night if no luck. There website says 3 or 5 Yr guarantee. Think this falls. Under 3 year.

Even if they replace just until we save. Unless we've got a dodgy one.?

I bought a Dormeo double mattress for a spare bed from one of Ideal World's numerous promotions . It was half-price, cost £199, and I could have spread the payments over 4 months without interest.

The deal was 60 nights to try it out and they collect and refund if you don't like it. Mine stayed because those who've slept on it have been very impressed and have remarked on how comfortable it is. I seem to recall it also has a 15 year guarantee.

It shouldn't be long till IW launch another Dormeo deal - I just put the tv on to IW and it seems there might be another promotion tomorrow,. Smile

Check it out before you make a decision as to which mattress to go for.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 17/10/2019 14:06

I had a silent night mattress once the operative word being once it was horrific springs literally poking through within 3 years the sleepeezzee mattress I replaced it with is still going strong 10 years later.

ActualHornist · 17/10/2019 14:09

YANBU.

We bought an ikea mattress in April of last year and it was replaced in July. The sides had started sagging and when they sent someone out to look at it, they said it had been made improperly.

Ours was about £450 but they have loads from about £90 upwards, sprung and foam.

Kraggle · 17/10/2019 14:11

We bought a Dormeo mattress on very with I think 9 or 12 months interest free. Meant we could pay it off in instalments but before the time period ended so no interest was charged and it’s been brilliant.

Bigregrets19 · 17/10/2019 16:19

Never heard of dormeo. But will look online later at all suggestions

Ideal World's "11th Dormeo Blockbuster" offer has just begun on freesat channel 22 or check the website.

Dormeo double hybrid latex mattress is just under half price at £239.99 plus £7.49 p&p payable by 4 interest free payments of £60 - whatever card you use they deduct £60 every month for 4 months - it's on a 60 night trial and if you don't like it they collect & refund.

I have a latex pillow that is supremely comfortable. It's the best I've ever had and I'm seriously considering buying a kingsize mattress for myself.
