Is this a thing now? Lunch in a naice new pub in the garden of England. Fast food, nice atmosphere, busy, not cheap but not outrageous (mains 15 quid +) on leaving around 2pm there were two doormen, suites and buoyed, opened the door for us etc asked if we’d had a nice lunch, wished us well. I was too surprised to ask wtf?! This pub is in county, in a village, 15 mins from nearest major town?
Is this a thing now? Are we stopping bad people getting in or drunk people driving home? Average age of clientele was 40+
Am I missing something?! (Sheltered life!)

Ps very definitely bouncers/ security not welcome committee. Stood outside in rain, with old school security clothing and license badges etc.

Big rugby match today wasn't there?

Alternatively maybe pub is worrying about nearby travellers or members of other communities wrongly thought to be troublemakers.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 13/10/2019 23:37

Keeping out the riff raff so the middle class can enjoy their £15+ meals.
Riff raff can go to Toby where it's £8.. wiv da rest of da scum. AV a Carlin n watch da footie ennit.. pull a bird and AV a game a 'pool' in the da back room... Nah wot I mean.. ;)

Hmm, no screens etc in pub, it’s firmly Gastro pub territory.

Fruitbatdancer · 13/10/2019 23:38

lol @MonkeyToesOfDoom I wish there was a Toby nearby we’d be on it! Literally no descent places hence excitement naice pub had appeared!

We were there as were lots of others with young kids etc. It’s beside a field of ponies! It’s honestly not me being snobby. Which is why I was so curious? Surely can’t be taking enough money to warrant having two full time security round the clock 🤷🏻‍♀️

What was it before it opened? Maybe a drug dealer type pub or a different type of clientele where trouble was normal and they are doing this to make it clear it has changed.

Fruitbatdancer · 13/10/2019 23:52

It was an Indian restaurant! (Which in Itself was odd for an old pub!) maybe it was a front for something...?
