To think soap kids are so unlucky?

Just been catching up on this week's Emmerdale and Coronation Street and it occurred to me just how unfortunate their kids are.

In Emmerdale, only Isaac, Anjelica & Millie live with both of their parents. Isaac's mother's having an affair, and Millie's paternity is questionable, so soon it'll be only Anjelica.

Corrie is even worse! I can only think of Amy who lives with both parents and only she, Oliver and Jake (and Bertie) have not lost at least one parent.

AIBU to think it's highly unrealistic? Yes, I know it's only a soap and I've got too much time on my hands tonight

I read your title and was intrigued thinking it was part of the shower gel versus soap debate!

Thinking of my group of friends growing up, it's very realistic. Out of a group of 10 only one still has both parents together.

What I want to know is who's watching the poor kids whilst their parents are living in the pub?

ViciousJackdaw · 14/10/2019 01:02

Eastenders is just as bad - poor little Bailey whose mum recently committed suicide as she was terminally ill has just discovered that her 'second mum' knew she wanted to end it and didn't try and stop her. Baby Abi's mum and dad are both dead so she's passed between the warring Max and Ranie (a recovering addict), Cherry with absent parents, left in the care of Kat Slater and don't forget Keanu who has got his girlfriend and her stepmother pregnant at the same time.

SavetheMinden6 · 14/10/2019 01:48

And most of them have an unknown "evil twin" too!

Spidey66 · 14/10/2019 02:12

And what about the unlucky parents? On EE both Max and Ian have lost two kids each (if you count Steven as Ian's dad.) One is very unlucky but two? And two people in such close proximity , and who's kids were so close they share 2 grandchildren through separate kids (j y9u st worked that out- Abby is there's via Abby and Steven, and Louis through Peter and Lauren.)

Sorry about typos.

Everyone on soaps seems to be very unlucky and live a much more dramatic life than would be expected irl :o

I don't think it's that unusual to have separated parents though.

If you live in a deprived area, then I'd say it is realistic.

I've been recording Coronation Street and watching in blocks because my DH wasn't given long to live after diagnosis. We wete told months and it went down to weeks, but it turned out to be only two. We have three children.

I know loads of people bringing up relatives children, because of issues similar to Hailey's.

The thing i found most unrealistic about EE was when Joyce needed a pauper funeral. She was the type to have life insurance.

"What I want to know is who's watching the poor kids whilst their parents are living in the pub?"

Emily, mary, maria or chesney.
Dot, one of the teens, Honey, Sonia.
Diane, Pearl, Marlon, Vanessa, Tracey, Jimmy etc.

How clean the houses of working parents with social lives, is the unrealistic bit.

and we havent even gotten onto hollyoaks yet! Grin
