Nervous about flying to USA

I’m due to travel to the USA next week and am feeling quite anxious about it. I’ve never been to the US before and will be flying into JFK. I’ve heard the security when you land is really intense, with three hour queues to get through customs and really scary US officials.

Has anyone had any experience of flying into JFK - do you really have to queue for that long and is it as intimidating as they say?

I’m also nearly 12 weeks pregnant and forgot to buy those special socks for the flight - will I be able to buy them at the airport in the UK?

Any other tips you have for flying to NYC would be very welcome!

I believe it can be worse if you are dusky and called Mohammed.

Heathrow was awful when I went through it with my Muslim boyfriend. Funny how our bags were selected for extra searching every time.

I went through JFK two weeks ago, staff polite and competent, no problem at all, some of the electronic machines were rejecting some passengers including me so meant a bit longer queing but no problem at all, well organised, dont worry
