I couldn't believe what I was watching. Grown men paying out a large sum of money to be taught by Street Seduction Coaches how to pick up girls and women. Some of whom were very young and others who really were not interested but the men were taught how to break down resistance.

It was scandalous!

My DH forwarded me the BBC one with the caption “eugh...men are shit”. In this case he is bang on. Completely seeks to undo all the campaigning around no means no. Grim.

You want ti say to these guys listen, here's a secret for you for free - the next time you are speaking to a woman you fancy, why not ask her some questions about herself and listen to the answers? Then if she fancies you, she might well want to sleep with you, eventually, when she's ready and she knows enough about you to trust you! Like in a relationship! And bonus: you'll know a bit about her and you'll know whether you like her too! Because you're actually a human being, not a dog in heat, and perhaps if you allow yourself a bit of self-esteem you'll realise that "anyone I can fool into sleeping with me" is a very low standard to have, and in a way quite sad?

I watched this and it occurred to me that maybe it's just one big fraud. One of the men teaching it even said that the woman in the video was an actress, women do not go off with men who hassle them in the street or shops. I think it is a way to to get really stupid men to pay lots of money to hassle women in the street. maybe if there were a few more police in the town centres this would stop.

I mean, nobody is being forced into anything or doing anything illegal so I don’t think any of this speaks directly to discussions about consent, but it is tangentially relevant.

To me, it’s more that these idiot men are paying someone to teach them how to attract the attention of security guards for being potential sex predators, and it’s ringing no alarm bells. Thick much?

Maybe there is a way for shy young men to learn how to talk to women without getting into trouble like the man in the news at the moment.
But it isn't this way.

Sadly, this is nothing new. There's a book called The Game written by Neil Strauss (first published in 2005) that exposes the Pick-Up Artist scene. The irony is that a lot of men recommend The Game as a manual for picking up women. It's not. It's actually quite a damning expose and describes PUAs as pathetic, socially inept, mysoginistic tosspots who have taken a variety of pretty basic and everday social techniques, added in the sort of "don't take no for an answer" attitude that cheap-suited, thick-skinned salesmen rely on and badged it as some sort of magical system. Add to that a touch of pyramid-scheme style organisation and an emperor's new clothes mentality.

Men really do try these lines in bars as well, they do negging etc.
