To think UPS may be the worst company ever

Just on really for a rant!

I ordered 3 items from a shop and arranged UPS to deliver them. 2 out of the 3 arrived.

After much hassle trying to contact them I was eventually able to track that the last item was broken in transit. After a very long wait on the phone I was able to speak to an adviser who explained that he would post me out a claim form and as long as I had proof of purchase and had declared the value, then I could claim for item and delivery costs.

Roll on 1 week and no claim form, so I tried to call them again but gave up after 1 hour holding and emailed instead. I have now got an email to say that as item was damaged, they have deemed this due to inadequate packaging (other 2 items arrived perfectly and were appropriately parcelled) and would not be allowing me to claim or refund my costs. I am outraged as they haven’t been delivered the damaged item to me ! This is despite me declaring what item was, value of item and ensuring appropriate packaging was arranged.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,.

I guess UPS is thinking that they are not prepared to pay compensation for something that wasn’t their fault – I guess they mean you need to take this up with the seller and that they should either replace or refund you. I had a bit of a karyon with Hermes about this sort of thing: ordered clothing from High Street store. Get an email with a tracking link once sent. Following day the tracking says ‘ sorry your parcel is on hold. We will have it on the move within the next 24 hours ‘ Long story short: a week later, nothing. Hermes wouldn’t talk to me as it wasn’t my account, said I had to talk to the shop. I contacted the store, ended up doing this twice, and eventually they tell me that the parcel is damaged so they have cancelled the order. This was more than two weeks after the tracking was sent to me. I’ve had another one this week: Parcelforce. Expecting A parcel from abroad, checking tracking and as of 9:45 pm Sunday it states it is at their depot 200 miles from me. Then at 7:55 am the following day it states delivery attempted, no response. No you did not try and deliver!! It turns out there is a customs charge – which I was expecting – but rather than say that, It said that the delivery had been attempted. By the way, well done for being able to speak to somebody at UPS, because one time they had my address wrong, and it took forever to actually be able to get in touch with someone to rectify it. The tracking info simply said ‘on hold’. I had no idea why it was on hold! Getting a telephone number for a delivery company is insanely difficult!

  • carry on, not karyon. This is what happens when I use the microphone instead of typing!

I only managed to speak to them once and am now unable to get hold of them!

I’ve paid them £14.48 for nothing! I would actually want the broken item rather than nothing as there are parts of it that would still be of value to me!

I've read this a lot and they have so many complaints made against them but every time they've delivered to me, everything has been perfectly fine. Need to find some wood to touch now..

I think you need to contact the seller - I suppose your contract, so to speak, is with them, and theirs is with UPS (as well as with you). You haven't received the item, pure and simple. What has happened to it in transit - or before transit - is not your problem or fault. Did you pay by Paypal or credit card? If you don't get a satisfactory response from the seller, go to the card provider (if used).
