To think this is a money making scheme?

A family member has applied for settled status, she has been living, working and contributing in the UK for numerous years. She sent off her application and it came back saying that she has been granted pre settled status. This is the status you are given if you haven’t yet lived in the UK for 5 consecutive years. So she has queried this, to be told it will cost £80 to have the decision reviewed.

AIBU to think they are doing this to everyone who applies, just to collect the £80 fees?

Having worked in civil service, I say with some confidence that wherever the public think they spot a conspiracy, there is usually just a bunch of lazy incompetents mucking everything up.

Are you sure that the its £80 upfront not £80 if your decision isn't overturned by the review?
