To think his texts are far too long?

I met a guy on tinder, been speaking to him for about a week through WhatsApp. Seems a nice guy, and we are meeting for a coffee on Sunday - all good.

The only thing that's getting me is he literally texts me essays, every single message he sends is so long, so long in fact that I have to click the "read more" button on virtually every message. His messages are interesting and he responds to what I say and asks lots of questions. But I already find myself reading a message and then not replying for 5 or 6 hours because it seems like such an effort to write a response back to his big essays. My responses are much shorter.

Is this normal? I've never had this before?

Is there a polite way to say slow down?

Some people are just like that, it irritates me too as it feels very pre prepared and unnatural. Yanbu but I’d probably just let him down gently, it is what it is
