I'm not going to complain about what is actually happening with Brexit - that's a whole other shindig!

But AIBU to think it's a waste of money to advertise that people need to be prepared for the end of the month when Brexit will (supposedly) take place?

Businesses that deal with the EU should know there will be changes and they can't prepare for anything that hasn't actually been agreed other than to think out some general "whatifs?"

And the one for the general public is worse! "check that your passport will allow you to travel in the EU. check that you have travel insurance that will cover you." These were necessary before Brexit was voted on so it's only idiots who will thing "ah yes! I don't have a passport but fancy going to France anyways!"

Has anyone heard anything at all useful in these ads?

I've heard of number of people thinking they can travel on DL😂 And we all know people were often going just with EHIC (I am pretty sure GoFundMe made much of their money from subsequent appeals for hospital bill covers..m)

The ad is designed to make you go online and check.

I would say it's a waste of money because no one can be that dumb if I hadn't seen people saying they want out of EU so "those indians can't come anymore"....

TriciaH87 · 02/10/2019 18:17

It's not about not having one it's about how long is left on your passport. Currently you can travel if you have 90 days left on passport when you return so say you go in December and passport expires end of March your fine. If we leave without a deal you will need 6 months on your passport when returning from EU meaning that passport that ends in March when you go in December is no good as it would need to expire end of June to use it for that trip.

Grumpyperson · 02/10/2019 18:22

Yes it's all a waste. I can't see Brexit happening at the end of October at all

Feckingfireengine · 02/10/2019 18:23

Yanbu. I actually boggled at this one the other day. Surely businesses can work this one out for themselves?!

And there is no actual advice given. Just lots of "checking". Just so it will be our fault when it goes tits up.
I sing loudly over it when they come on Spotify.

IAmALazyArse · 02/10/2019 18:25

@Grumpyperson I am with you on that

SmudgeButt · 02/10/2019 22:05

@TriciaH87

you will need 6 months on your passport

Actually any consulate/embassy I've contacted says that's not true. They like it but as long as you have as long on your passport until your return ticket or whatever you're fine.

They are so pointless. "Get ready for Brexit but we wont tell you HOW because we have no fecking idea ourselves anyway"

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 02/10/2019 22:13

Well I’m sure some people travelled on just EHIC cards but let’s face it they weren’t the brightest and no ad is going to make them buy insurance.

You can’t tell stupid people shit so why waste money in ads they won’t listen to anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

WindFlower92 · 03/10/2019 00:56

Well I went on the website to see how I could prepare and the questionnaire told me I don't need to prepare as I was born in the UK and don't have a business. Problem solved eh?

SaireyDog · 03/10/2019 01:04

According to the questionnaire I don't need to do anything to prepare...despite being an insulin dependent type 1 diabetic Hmm

Velveteenfruitbowl · 03/10/2019 01:07

I think it’s designed to get people to check what they actually need to do to avoid people freaking out and stick piling/doing other batty things or failing to do something which they should do but are unaware of.
