How many people on here are from Northamptonshire?

Does anyone on here live in Northamptonshire? What are your opinions of the four towns (Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and Northampton) and the rural areas?

I absolutely don't. I know nothing of Northamptonshire. But, 4 years ago, a Satnav from Peterborough to Southampton had me weaving through the rural countryside of Northamptonshire and it was lovely.

I had no idea!

Sooperkat · 29/09/2019 23:52

Very eastern outskirts of Northampton here.
A lot of the villages and rural areas really are stunning. I don’t think any of the town centres are much to write home about. Partly empty and dirty. I rarely visit any of them any more, preferring to go to Rushden Lakes or MK for big stores. That said there are lots of fab restaurants in Northampton and some lovely independent shops in the area too.

Ihavenofriends · 29/09/2019 23:53

@Sooperkat - I love Rushden Lakes!

I completely agree, @Miljah - I love that drive through the rural countryside too!

I live here. I don't think much of any of the 4 towns but the villages are beautiful. I work very rurally and love it.

Elclr · 30/09/2019 00:10

You forgot Rushden, Daventry, Towcester and Brackley. All very much towns Wink

Ihavenofriends · 30/09/2019 00:28

@Elclr - haha - of course! Shameful of me, but I am writing very much from an North/East Northamptonshire perspective. South Northamptonshire is great too!

I used to live in all of them towns and in my experience every single one are complete shit holes. Ecton and Mears Ashby is really nice

Ihavenofriends · 30/09/2019 00:58

@peppapiginthepen - completely agree about Ecton and Mears Ashby!

We live between Kettering & Corby-been here for about 10 years...I agree with the PP & don’t think much of the towns (although I don’t think I’ve ever been to Wellingborough) but there are some lovely villages & Rushden Lakes is great!

VanGoghsDog · 30/09/2019 01:10

I live just south of Rushden. All the towns are a bit unpleasant to be honest.

The villages are nice. Well, most of them. I had the misfortune to drive through Raunds the other day, that wasn't up to much.

Wallywobbles · 30/09/2019 02:21

Im from there originally. But South Northants. Towcester Brackley Daventry are more our end. Towns you mentioned are all manky. Little towns are lovely.

countrygirl99 · 30/09/2019 05:33

bvngophsdog you must ge near me, North Beds village beginning with R, big pub that does steaks. Agree the towns are all meh, but lovely villages.

FreshwaterBay · 30/09/2019 05:35

North Northamptonshire countryside is beautiful and all that area where it merges into Leicestershire. The larger towns are a bit hit and miss though.

FrenchyQ · 30/09/2019 05:41

My daughter is at college over that way and have to agree, some of the villages are really beautiful, the towns tho not much to write home about.

Doodlebug5 · 30/09/2019 05:49

I'm in Northampton but on the outskirts near the motorway. It's great for access. Short nip to MK, quick drive to the bullring. Plenty of rural parks etc. And it has the affect of being cheap to buy a house 3 bed for £150k?

WellLetsSayHesSquare · 30/09/2019 10:01

I'm Northampton and j agree the town is shocking but I honestly dont go that often unless were at the hospital (which is great btw)

We tend to go to rushden lakes or mk if we need something in particular. Weekly shop done at Weston favell.

keepingbees · 30/09/2019 10:04

Those towns are all dumps. They have quite a few amenities for small towns and good travel links to London and M1 but that's about all they've got going for them.

Bluetit101 · 30/09/2019 10:07

I used to live in Northampton and still have family there.
Visited last Christmas after not going back for a long time and was so disappointed with the town centre.

toptomatoes · 30/09/2019 10:11

We live in a village north of Northampton but generally go to market harborough if we need a town. Sometimes Northampton, sometimes rushden lakes, depending why we are going. Very rarely into the town centres of any of the towns you mentioned.

familycourtq · 30/09/2019 10:13

I used to live in a tiny village near Kettering and I loved it and would move back tomorrow.

Stillfunny · 30/09/2019 10:19

Used to live there. Hated it
Poor Corby is particularly neglected.Wellingborough crap.Very badly neglected town centres in Kettering and Northampton.
But outlying villages like Oundle, Onley , Apethorpe , in the east are lovely.

PenelopePeachStone · 30/09/2019 10:31

I’m from Northampton Smile... the town itself has gone downhill like most town centres in recent years however much better than some towns... I currently live just outside Banbury Shock...

Am moving back to south northants in a couple of weeks to towcester which is a small market town and is very nice with easy transport links... agree with pp’s That the villages / rural towns sound the county are lovely..

Would personally not go back to Northampton however my brother lives there in the Abington area which is lovely...

Northampton itself however does have lots to do... sports-the saints and the cobblers:) museums and its really not a bad place to live imo ... just do some research about the area you want to live....

oohyoudevilyou · 30/09/2019 10:35

Lived in Kett'rin for most of my life, but it's pretty neglected and down-at-heel now. Moved out a few miles out and it's better, but would ideally like to move to Market Harborough as it's generally nicer and closer to Leicester for shops, entertainment etc.

VanGoghsDog · 30/09/2019 10:52

@countrygirl99

About a mile away I think, large village, beginning with S, known for its upper school!
