He probably got a student pregnant. He allegedly did a lot of that He gave us a 9am lecture in black tie once apologising because he was just off the train from London. This was almost 20 years ago- he was quite good looking then.

oh he was smarmy then but had very intense eyes. Certainly not my cup of tea but could see why people found him attractive.

I've been told (by someone who knows him well) that he's shy (I was complaining about his arrogance as well).

I agree scamp (great name). Anyone who is so sure, anyone that can't quite conceive that they night be wrong, anyone that can write to their 11 year old daughter telling her that there is no God is a teansy bit arrogant.

I was never convinced about the shyness. I don't mind him tbh; he writes clearly- does seem to enjoy upsetting christians a bit too much (but am not one myself so doesn't offend as such). Am interested to hear Bluesticking's story.

I must admit I switch off on his god stuff; only really read his bits on natural selection which are very well written.

Is there some problem with telling 11-year-olds there is no God?

Presumably by that age they also know there is also no tooth fairy or Father Christmas, so it ought not to be too traumatic.

yama - If there's no god then that's what you'd tell you child. It's not a case of not believing, to an "atheist" there isn't one. Nothing to do with belief. Anyway, to drunk to argue about it
