Friston and East Dean

Hi, just looking at moving to Eastbourne and would love to have somewhere with views and close to the downs. What is East Dean and Friston like? Looking online it looks lovely and seen some nice houses. Is it a good place for kids? I have an 18 month old. I know there are no schools there, but any nurseries? Any kids play groups? Also are there many amenities there?

Alternatively, are there any other areas that people would consider?

Any advice much appreciated!

Can't comment on facilities for kids, but it's a beautiful area. Near to Seven Sisters Country Park, Friston Forest, Cuckmere Haven and Cuckmere Meanders if you like things like kayaking.

Can be quite busy in the summer months, which impacts on the roads. Regardless, I'd imagine it's a lovely place to live. Not too far from Brighton too.

Yeah, nice spots says DH who went to school in Eastbourne. There’s a couple of prep schools and Eastbourne College for seniors if you’d like to go down the independent route.

Both absolutely beautiful.

Both are beautiful, not much in the way of amenities but Eastbourne and Seaford are both short drives away and have plently of amenities, things for children, playgroups, nurseries, schools etc.

thanks for those comments. Would you recommend East dean and friston over seaford?

I haven’t been to east dean and Friston for years but Seaford is a lovely place, close to the beach and has a great park just over the road from the beach!
Depending on your budget, Alfriston is a lovely place with a small primary school for the local kids although it doesn’t have a secondary school there.

Beautiful but maybe more to do in Seaford

Love East Dean. Love the Tiger Inn and Cuckmere Haven. We nearly moved there but came to NZ instead. Some of the housing is a private estate though. Friston is equally lovely.

East dean and Friston are lovely but as others have said no amenities. Seaford is great for kids with lots of schools, nurserys, playgroups etc. You could also consider Willingdon north of Eastbourne.
