To ask for an estimated start date for job?

Had a job offer over 3 weeks ago, (not a great job, part time, nmw)
E-mailed names of references and filled in stuff for DBS check as requested.
Have not had any contact now for 3 weeks, would it be unreasonable of me to e-mail and ask for a proposed starting date?

No, just email.
The lack of contact this early on is a bit concerning... can you look for another job?

Ofcourse not. It may be they are waiting for DBS. DEf phone and ask if they have any more details about when you are to commence the role.

I applied for a job in April. Interview July. Offered it in August. I still have no start date. I feel your pain!

backaftera2yearbreak I imagine your job is much more high end than mine.
It was such a quick process initially, they contacted me within 2 days of the application going in, had an interview 5 pm one day and a trial session the next morning.

I work in recruitment. I would guess they wouldn't usually propose a start date because they won't be 100% when your DBS will be returned and wouldn't want you handing in a notice or making arrangements (eg child care) until that comes back incase for one reason or another it takes longer than expected. However it would have been better practice for them to explain this to you. I woukd give them a call and just clarify.

Just had an e-mail asking for names and addresses for references, they've had them for over 2 weeks.Hmm
