Thomas Cook - booking from non-EU country

Could someone help ; my DIL booked tickets (flight only ) for her and GS to come to UK for Christmas with Thomas Cook. She isn't covered by ATOL as no accommodation but she did pay by Visa credit card . She isn't in Europe, do other countries have an equivalent of s75 that covers companies going bankrupt ? If not has she lost her money ? It's nearly £2000 . I so want to see them Sad

Yes, there are similar protections to section 75 elsewhere in the world. But the world is a big place, I'd imagine they will be fine if they are based in the US but if they are based in Sudan I would have no idea.

Give specifics or just give a google search and you should find what you need.

Get them to phone their Visa card company and their travel insurance company

Did she use paypal? Her credit card payment may be protected through paypal.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 25/09/2019 15:27

Her first step should be to call the credit card company, they will advise

Thank you . It's Mexico. She has rung the bank and they have told her the payment has to be cancelled by TC first. Not sure how they would do that if they're not trading. I have tried google but I'm getting too many irrelevant results. She didn't use paypal

Apparently Visa in Mexico don't offer this protection so she has lost all the money and won't be able to come now. It's really sad , it shows there are individuals at the bottom of the pile left substantially out of pocket.

I’m so sorry to hear that. We’re almost 2k out of pocket due to this Thomas cook disaster and honestly if it wasn’t my mums last Xmas we would have cancelled too.
Many many people have been left in severe financial situations due to this.
I really hope you find a way to get them over for Xmas

walchesterweasel · 26/09/2019 19:00

I'm sorry that you have that added stress and worry.
I don't think she will be able to come as she will still be paying on her credit card for ages for this non-existent ticket . So wanted to see them.
