To be annoyed Alexa just blew the surprise?

I ordered something from Amazon as a little surprise for DC for trying really hard at school.

Alexa has just totally given the game away by announcing a parcel due to be delivered and then listing the contents!

At least I wasn't ordering Christmas or birthday presents. Have managed to turn it off in the app now, but AIBU to be quite peeved with stupid Alexa?

Ours only ever says a parcel, not what's in it. The only thing I can recommend is to only ask for your notifications when there's no one around.

SleepingSoul · 18/09/2019 17:46

Mine never tells me what's in the parcel, just that there's one due to be delivered. Easy answer is not to ask for notifications when you have company.

EugenesAxe · 18/09/2019 17:47

“Alexa? I know you were trying to help, but just fuck off and never think for yourself again.”

browneyesblue · 18/09/2019 17:48

Mine lists the contents too

littlecabbage · 18/09/2019 17:48

Another reason to add to the hundreds why I don’t want an Alexa!

Whathappenedtothelego · 18/09/2019 17:48

I didn't ask for notifications!

Dd said "Alexa... um..." because she was trying to remember the name of the song she wanted, and Alexa just went right ahead and overshared Confused

How does it know you have company?? 😦

Put Alexa on the naughty step!

We were discussing the other day how Alexa is a lovely name but there must be loads of parents who rue the day they named their child Alexa!

Whathappenedtothelego · 18/09/2019 17:51

Eugenesaxe, quite! (though she always primly pretends not to understand when I swear at her).

Creepy, right?

I remember a segment on This Morning where they were reviewing Alexa, and were talking about concerns people had of her listening in on the family. The woman that was demonstrating said "Oh no, it only starts listening when you say her name, and you can switch off certain features by...bla bla." Anyway, Alexa sprung to life to inform the demonstrator how to switch off aforementioned features, even though it hadn't been prompted by name. Grin Made me want to steer well clear.
