Should I assume I didn't get the job?

I had an interview and immediately after it..the next day, the owner was going away for a work trip for a week. The job was in a small company...

He returned last Tuesday. I didn't get it did I? He'd have let me know by now?

I feel really annoyed because he told me directly that I was the most experienced candidate. And I REALLY need this job.

Would there be any harm in chasing it up? Potentially they just have a lot on and priorities above filling the role - but I can't see why you can't pop them a friendly reminder.

NavyBerry · 18/09/2019 12:29

Just ask. What's the harm?

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 18/09/2019 12:29

Could you send a polite message to him asking when you can expect to be told if you've been successful or not? Include that, if you weren't the successful candidate, you'd appreciate some constructive feedback to help you with future interviews.

Yes,make contact op.good luck!

HennyPennyHorror · 18/09/2019 12:32

I did call already...I didn't know he was going away.

Just ring up and ask, there's no harm in asking and you have nothing to loose.

Plus - even if you didn't get the job you can then ask questions as to why you didn't and ask for tips for future interviews!

HennyPennyHorror · 18/09/2019 12:35

I called whilst he was away.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 18/09/2019 12:36

When did you call, whilst he was away?

If he's been back a week yesterday, and you called more than a week ago, there's no harm in following up.

curlyLJ · 18/09/2019 12:36

I would just call again. It won't do any harm

HennyPennyHorror · 18/09/2019 12:37

Ffs I didn't call but I emailed. I can't hassle them again can I? HIs assistant emailed me back to tell me he'd gone away the day after the interviews for a week...she said he was back on Tuesday which is last week now.

OP posts:
HennyPennyHorror · 18/09/2019 12:37

Ok...so...I emailed...shall I call this time? I feel that over a week is enough time for him to decide but then again he could be busy?

OP posts:
curlyLJ · 18/09/2019 12:37

Things get forgotten. People are busy.
I am waiting for a start date for a job I've accepted and I've had to chase a couple of times annoyingly!

Bobthefishermanswife · 18/09/2019 12:40

If you've emailed, call, it won't do any harm.

NearlyGranny · 18/09/2019 12:45

I'd call. It shows you're keen. And rather than ask whether you got the job, you could ask for feedback in your interview. They don't have to offer it but it's always useful to know what aspect they felt let you down, though it won't always feed neatly into your next interview. Sometimes it's bland and generic sometimes it's enlightening.

Fingers crossed your future boss might just not have got round to telling you the job is yours - it's amazing how long some people take!

DD was told no after one interview and then called again weeks later to see if she was still interested; they were going to be busy and were hiring more people and she was at the top of the no pile from last time.

She stayed several years in that job!

Maryann1975 · 18/09/2019 12:45

Give them a ring. At least you will know then.

HennyPennyHorror · 18/09/2019 12:47

Thanks everyone. Granny that's comforting. The boss was a bit sort of...chilled I suppose.

I'll call tomorrow then. I'm in Australia and it's nighttime here. I'll update too!

I'd call - I got back from hols two weeks ago and still catching up Blush He should have told you about holidays etc. and when to hear back but perhaps with his holiday it got missed. Absolutely no reflection on you and how you've done in the interview.

Fingers crossed for you X
