About my neighbour?

We live in a house split into four so sound proofing isn't the best.

New neighbour to the only non residential unit is obviously having work done, no big deal, we all have to bang sometime but they have been in and out all day only they have picked until after 8pm to now to knock a flipping wall down in a property to see what is behind it on my interior wall. There is a flat above them too.

I'm already a bit pissed tbh as they have already decided to consistently use my carpark space which I pay for and take up other residents spaces also without asking and the business is the kind that will require carpark spaces when there is only one for the business and the rest are residents only.

Aibu to think if you are knocking a wall down at 9pm at night in a residents block you at least show some courtesy to the neighbours and introduce yourself and apologise if it HAS to be done at that time or at least knock and ask if you can please park in their space while you have friends helping you!

Or am I being a grumpy bitch.

I would be livid, if i were you

Mycatwontstopstaring · 11/09/2019 21:38

Pretty sure they aren’t allowed to do building work at 9pm. Might be worth a chat with your local council’s noise control officer to ask if they can warn the neighbour to pipe down.

CallmeAngelina · 11/09/2019 21:38

You need penguin bollards.
Google them.

Mycatwontstopstaring · 11/09/2019 21:38

And yes I’d be furious and going round them to complain if they weren’t too scary

PoppinsPerfume · 11/09/2019 21:41

I wouldn't have minded so much if they had knocked and apologised and said they really couldn't do it any other time but they (the unit renter not workmen or anything) were literally knocking down part of a wall to see what was behind it!

Will have a look at penguin bollards thanks!

Mumofboth · 11/09/2019 21:44

What a pisstake! I’d be fuming. You’re not being grumpy. You have every right to complain about the noise and to complain to the company they work for about where they’re parking.

WombleOwl · 11/09/2019 21:52

DO NOT GOOGLE PENGUIN BOLLARDS! < glares at CallmeAngelina > Grin

PoppinsPerfume · 11/09/2019 21:53

They don't have employers Mumofboth it isn't even contractors who were here. It is the guy who has just rented the unit who decided to see what was behind the wall and start knocking it down at 8pm onwards.

Way to start relationships with your new neighbours. I used to keep an eye on things for the previous person and ring her if alarm was going off or if anyone was trying to get in.

Takeitonthechin · 11/09/2019 21:54

I agree they should apologise for the banging they are about to make, is it just for one night?, if so you are lucky, our neighbours have been knocking , banging, hammering and drilling since just after Christmas, every bloody weekend Angry

PoppinsPerfume · 11/09/2019 21:54

Oh God I'm scared to Google now Womble 😂

OP posts:
PoppinsPerfume · 11/09/2019 21:57

I doubt it Takeitonthechin , they are completely returning the unit from one use to a different use. (think book shop to hair salon)

PoppinsPerfume If you have a decent ad blocker you might be alright Wink

ittybittywittykitty · 11/09/2019 22:01

I’ve just googled it for you (more for myself). they’re just penguin style bollards. I was fully expecting a type of drug or sex toy Blush

Apparently though if you google them ads for them follow you round for weeks after a bit of MN research.

Btw, YANBU. At all. Take action!

WitchDancer · 11/09/2019 22:02

Google them, they're really cool 🤪

Urskeks · 11/09/2019 22:07

Currently unavailable on Amazon, bet it's Mumsnets fault

HeronLanyon · 11/09/2019 22:11

I was about to google p bollards also having seen them
Mentioned on mn so often. Now wavering. Frankly
Now slightly frightened !!

CassianAndor · 11/09/2019 22:16

If he is renting the unit can you get in touch with the landlord? He’s not allowed to do building work at this time of night.

DonnaLee8 · 11/09/2019 22:17

You are most definitely NOT a grumpy bitch. I would be going beserk in your situation!
I'm pretty sure that by law, building work is not allowed so late, but as previously suggested, contact your council to check/report it.
As for the parking issue, together with other residents, you really need to have a word with the unit owner before his business is up and running and his customers are also using residents designated parking spaces. (He will have been made aware of the parking situation before he took on the unit so there is no excuse for him to be using yours.)
Have a look at these on Amazon...

(I have no affiliation to this.)
Good luck, I hope you get this sorted quickly.

Hmm I said to the other neighbour earlier I'm surprised they can make structural changes when it is rented. Its definitely rented.

I'm not sure what wall he was knocking into but in the kitchen of the unit there is a tiled wall and it sounded like he was banging into that it was so loud. (He said he was trying to see what was on the other side) behind the tiles is the door to my hallway!! It used to be a large shop and the family lived above so they had a door straight from their living part to the shop and they just tiled over the wall and door when they split it so it better not be that wall.

OP posts:
IsadoraQuagmire · 12/09/2019 07:00

I hope you can get in touch with the owner of the unit and get things sorted out. This man needs to be made aware of all the problems he's causing.

PoppinsPerfume · 12/09/2019 07:22

Thanks, two out of three of the neighbours (one was out) went round at 8.30pm and asked if he was going to banging long. He said no he would stop now, he was just seeing what was behind the wall but would stop and he was sorry. He was told neighbour was up at five and people had kids. He did bang a couple of more times for a few seconds then stopped because I would have been back down again!
