to not send my child with PE Kit

Well obviously I am, but posting here for traffic.

My child has been in the early years department of the school and is now moving up to F2. Last year they didn't need PE kit and I totally misread the uniform list and thought it said reception didn't either.

My child starts tomorrow and I've only just realised. Done an express order so will have it by Tuesday....but will this be a disaster?!

I used to be a reception teacher myself and have never done PE on the first day but I gather (from my extensive & frantic internet search) others schools do. I'm not sure there is anything I can do, expect hope they don't.

I don't have the car today, husband is at work and we live miles from family so can't pop to Tesco.

Tell me it will all be fine..?!

If you’re mega mega worried send them with a note and some ‘kit’ from home. A change of teeshirt and shorts you wouldn’t mind them doing PE in. Explain correct kit will be there ASAP. However I think it’s unlikely they will do PE on first day. I’m a PE teacher and we never expect pupils to have it on their first day.

WaterSheep · 08/09/2019 16:26

Don't panic. There's no way they will be doing PE on the first day.

No reception teacher is that mad. Grin

PEkithelp · 08/09/2019 16:27

That's a good idea. In my panicked state, it hadn't occurred to me.

It will be fine. It will be a while before the Reception teacher is brave enough to teach PE has settled the whole class in and starts teaching PE.

Mention it at drop off if you're worried but in my kids school they rarely got changed for PE in reception, just took off shoes and socks.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 08/09/2019 16:28

Oh gosh there's no way they will be doing PE the first day back, unless the teacher is utterly insane. Don't stress out about it having it a week later shouldn't make a difference.

PEkithelp · 08/09/2019 16:33

Thank you all! Can you tell I'm a wee bit nervous about my PF starting full time? So different as a parent than as a teacher.

In a panicked state? Over PE kit? Kids sometimes forget their PE kit, it’s really not that big a deal - especially for reception children on their first day Confused please calm down.

kierenthecommunity · 08/09/2019 16:37

Even if they did do PE (and I imagine they won’t, are they having staggered starts for the children) there will be no problem him doing it in his uniform. They won’t be doing anything so taxing that they need cooler clothes Smile

Maryann1975 · 08/09/2019 16:41

I’ve never known reception children do pe on their first day. At our school, they don’t even get them into their pe kits for the first half term. It’s stressful enough getting them all in door and making sure they all remember where the toilet is, without getting everyone undressed and dressed in to their pe kits and then reversing the process half an hour late! I can’t imagine any reception teacher thinking this would be a good idea!
Stop panicking and send it in when it has arrived later in the week.

LoonyLunaLoo · 08/09/2019 16:41

No reception teacher in their right mind would try to get a class full of children changed for PE on their first day!

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 08/09/2019 16:47

PE is pretty much the "learning-how-to-get-undressed-and-dressed-again-lesson" for the first half term anyway!

Hennysmommy · 08/09/2019 16:49

PE wont be for another 2 weeks at least. Im teaching in reception this year and there's lots of settling in and rules and boundaries to learn before the real "teaching" begins.

DoctorNicoleWatterson · 08/09/2019 16:53

We actually did do PE on Friday with our reception class, it was some of the children's first day. There were two children without kit, we have spares which we lent them, I would think most reception classes would keep some spare kit for those who forget/lose/have accidents in their own.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/09/2019 16:56

I don’t even like doing PE first day back with my Y5s!

WaterSheep · 08/09/2019 16:59

DoctorNicoleWatterson

I'm curious about why you do PE so early on. I've never known a reception class do it in the first week back.

RedElephants · 08/09/2019 17:01

LSA in Reception, out 27 children, we had 4 p.e bags hanging up at the end of last week.
No we didn't do P.E either Smile

Siameasy · 08/09/2019 17:06

Ours doesn’t do PE until after half term which is a relief cos I haven’t bought the kit either!!!

youarenotkiddingme · 08/09/2019 17:14

If it's state school I wouldn't worry.

I expect the idea of pe is panicking the reception teacher more than the idea of no kit is panicking you WinkGrin

Good luck to your DC in first day. And a Wine for you

DidYeAyee · 08/09/2019 17:16

Can't you just send them with something you already have? A pair of shorts or trackies and some trainers?

Nix32 · 08/09/2019 17:27

We don't get changed for PE until term 2! Until then the children just take off their shoes, socks and jumpers - that's enough of a challenge! Don't worry.

PEkithelp · 08/09/2019 19:56

Yes, state school. Will send him in with some plain shorts and T-shirt just in case. By tomorrow afternoon the right colour stuff will have arrived. Genuinely thank you to all those who have told me I'm being silly (in the nicest possible way).

hoopdaloo · 08/09/2019 20:59

When my first started reception, they didn't even use their pe kit at first. Because they weren't doing proper pe. I'm sure it will be fine.

Dieu · 08/09/2019 21:04

Totally fine OP, so don't worry Smile
