Does this look infected to you??

DS injured his foot, it has been scabbing over but he keeps picking or bumping it back open.

Yesterday morning DH put a plaster on it to stop him breaking it open, he's (DS) just now taken the plaster off and this is what it looks like.

I'm worried by the redness, it isn't hot to touch or pussy and I am going to put Savlon on it but would you take to GPs for antibiotics?

It may or may not be linked but DS had a bit of temperature last night, had calpol and has been really quite unwell this since 6.30 this morning when he woke up - temperature and thrown up water a few times, only wanting to lie down on me all morning.

He has only just started to perk up a bit and is eating some breakfast and sitting watching tv.

Oh I can now. Not sure from that as you'll get redness anyway. Might be worth drawing around it with a felt tip so you can check if the redness spreads.

Quartz2208 · 08/09/2019 09:59

Yes I would get a medical opinion particularly with the other symptoms as it is hard to say so needs looking at

Fucksandflowers · 08/09/2019 10:01

Clearer photo.

Felt too sounds like a good idea

@Daniel great idea about felt tip. I would keep a close eye on it and take to the doctor if you are not happy. Cellulitis could be a concern and he’ll need antibiotics then. Hope it heals soon, definitely wash with disinfectant and put on Savlon.

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 08/09/2019 10:21

Infection usually creates heat, so hopefully it's ok as there is no heat. The felt pen idea is a good one. Try to keep it uncovered - plasters are an oasis for bacteria.

Fucksandflowers · 08/09/2019 10:36

I have wiped it with TCP, ugh the stench 🤢and put savlon on, I won't put another plaster on

Quartz2208 · 08/09/2019 11:41

Stench from tcp or the wound

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 08/09/2019 11:43

Yeah a wound shouldn't smell, if it does it might be infected.

Fucksandflowers · 08/09/2019 11:49

Sorry, stench from the TCP.
It absolutely reeks, can still smell it on my hands after soaping.

The wound doesn't smell at all

It doesn't look infected to me tbh. It looks like he needs to stop picking it though.

I'd keep germoloning it and it'll probably just heal if he lets it. Use a cream so it's not easy to pick.

Aprillygirl · 08/09/2019 11:52

Doesn't look infected to me, but I would put a dressing on it to keep it clean and get him to the docs first thing if the wound and/or his general health gets any worse.

CanIGetARefund · 08/09/2019 13:32

Me and my friend think it could well be infected based on the symptoms of fever and unwellnness (both nurses). Can you get to a walk in centre?

Bloomburger · 08/09/2019 13:55

Get one of those plasters that only come off when the wound is healed. Think Superdrug is the best place. I tell DD they're magic and they really are. It literally only peels off under its own steam when the wound is all healed up.

Jayjaybirdy · 08/09/2019 13:59

Bloomburger my mother ended up
In hospital with a huge ulcer after using one of those.

Use with caution! My mum’s doctor said they were terrible.

Bluetrews25 · 08/09/2019 14:01

Or put a blister plaster on it - they keep it moist (which is now known to be best for wound healing) and prevent a scab from forming. You can get them in supermarkets.

Fucksandflowers · 08/09/2019 14:29

canigetarefund that is exactly my worry, that the fever may be because it is infected rather than he just happened to pick up a little virus.

He starting perking up at about 10am, ate breakfast and has been running round quite normal with no fever since so the calpol obviously worked well.
He is in bed now having his afternoon nap but if he is hot again when he wakes up I think he will take him to the walk in centre yes.

Off topic but wash your hands with ground coffee then rinse. I have a friend who makes soap he does one for cooks with coffee because it get rid of garlic and onion smells.
