to wear swim leggings

Just ordered some, to below the knee, not arrived yet so don't know if I will actually like them yet... but really hope they are the answer! I hate my legs, HATE them, feel so self conscious in normal swimwear, and have a big group holiday coming up. I've literally never seen another woman wearing any, but would it be so weird? It really bugs me how men can cover up in big shorts but women have to be so visible. DH says it's more obvious when you try and hide and it's better to just be confident but it's not that easy! Anyone else wear any? How much does it stand out?

Search for surf shorts for women, or ‘boyleg’ in women’s swimwear, it saved a lot of wasted time looking at ‘sexy’ swimwear options

It's so telling that women's swimwear is designed to just be sexy whereas men's is actual functional.

I wear things like this on thebeach and in the water.

i wear long boardshorts and a tanktop or a longsleeved uv top. i started when on holiday in a mainly Muslim country, and never looked back. i don’t swim competitively so the loose fit is fine, and so much more comf!

BarbarAnna · 08/09/2019 16:03

I have two pairs and they are both super comfy! I also wear a rash vest. When I got my first pair a fair few years back, they were the only ones I could find and I never saw anyone else wearing them. More recently, there are loads on Amazon so I think we will see them more and more.

Cassilis · 08/09/2019 19:19

@BikeRunSki why should she? Confused

She doesn’t want to show her legs and that’s absolutely fine.

DontForgetToDeadhead · 08/09/2019 19:23

I wear boardshorts and a tankini. Other people might notice/think it's weird but I don't care. I feel comfortable.

PrincessConsuelaTheSecond · 08/09/2019 19:42

I bought this for my last holiday and it’s awesome.

www.amazon.co.uk/Kidsform-Backless-Butterfly-Printed-Swimwear/dp/B07CYX6X2W/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?rnid=419157031&s=gateway&keywords=beach+cover+up&rps=1&sprefix=beach+cover+&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1567968075&refinements=p_76%3A419158031&sr=8-10

Made of swimming costume material and looks great. Can wear as a dress or a sarong (it’s quite long though)

I didn’t swim in it much but was great for quick dips in the pool and being by the beach etc.

Bought some great swimming leggings from Lidl that have been great, only £5.99 and also had UV tops. Will definitely be looking out for another pair next year.

ChristmasArmadillo · 08/09/2019 19:51

I wear a Burkini style suit. People probably glance at me more in passing but I’ve never noticed any unusually undue attention, so I doubt swim leggings will attract any. Do what makes you feel most comfortable!

RoseyPeas · 08/09/2019 23:15

I wore mine when I went swimming just yesterday!
Made me feel so much more confident, and very comfy. The only comments I have had have been asking where I got them - (Amazon)
Go for it - I love mine!!

flyingspaghettimonster · 09/09/2019 06:47

I wear swim leggings. I love them and no longer feel self concious. I hate my pasty cellulite covered thunder thighs. Even when I was my ideal weight they were wobbly and crap, and now I am a manatee. Whilst most people havent seen swim.leggings before I only get positive comments and I use so much less sun cream.

jacqelinedaniels · 12/09/2019 07:34

Amazing comments thank you! Feeling much more confident about it now. The more we wear them the more normalised it will be! It will be so fab to feel comfortable for a change walking around by the pool, instead of dashing off to hide from everyone as fast as humanly possible.

I swim very regularly with the kids. Loads of people wear swim leggings and long tops. I wear swim dress with skirt. No one cares a dot. Go try wearing them and see.

Doodah80 · 12/09/2019 16:19

Yours clothing sells different length swim leggings/shorts, from full length to mid-thigh length and also does board short style bottoms too. They're a plus size shop so only good if you're above a 16 though.

ImposterSyndrome101 · 12/09/2019 20:01

I'm short and overweight, I went on holiday with friends this summer and like you wanted to avoid and hide out of the way but I didn't I bought a swimming costume and acted like I didn't care and unsurprisingly it was fine.

Mammylamb · 12/09/2019 20:20

Where do you buy these swim legggins?

Sooperkat · 12/09/2019 20:30

I wore these on holiday this year with an underwired tanking top and I have never been so comfortable. For me the main benefit was that I could wander around in them even wet after getting out of the pool without any chafing. They were fab

*tankini

nononever · 12/09/2019 20:42

It's what you feel comfortable wearing. We go on a lot of beach holidays and I never take notice of what other people are wearing or what they look like. I used to have good legs but they are now marred by pretty bad scarring but I'm comfortable and confident wearing shorts/short dresses on holiday.

CathyorClaire · 12/09/2019 20:44

I've been wearing mens (flowery) swim shorts and a rash vest for a couple of years now. No-one looks twice (at least to my face Grin) and no-one has ever said a word. It's pissed me off for a long time that men get to wear comfortable, forgiving swim gear so I decided what's sauce for the goose...

Wear what makes you comfortable and don't forget you are never going to see those around you on the day again.

Phineyj · 12/09/2019 22:15

There are loads of costumes online with skirts as well (mainstream shops don't seem to do them, although the single style Next offers always sells.out). I bought one from Marisota (I think) when I was suffering with ugly varicose veins and although the veins are fixed now, I've never gone back. Wear what you like!!

BadBehaviour · 12/09/2019 22:18

Are you going swimming in then Op? Sorry if it’s a silly question. I don’t feel confident exposing my thighs either. When I go swimming I wear shorts & a bikini top x
