My 10yr old hurt his hip 5 months ago playing football. Over time a niggle became pain and severe limp, we have since had xrays, seen a peadiatric ortho specialist and been told that it is probably a groin injury, rest, have physio, gradual return to activity.
Everytime we think he is better, and is back training etc the problem returns.
The last week or two i have noticed him falling over a lot. Then the other day he woke with a bad knee, unable to straighten it, walking on his toe to avoid pain, knee kept going from under him.
A and E sent for xray and the Dr referred him to the fracture clinic, she said this is because she thought they would then get him the correct tests as obviously this shouldnt be going on for so long.
The fracture clinic look at at the knee, but suggest that he had toxic Synovitis and was getting it recurrently. He asked if we had had bloods, but didnt offer any. Then sent us on our way. As we have been referred back and are on a waiting list to see the ortho specialist, to just wait for that.
In the mean time my son cant play at play time,or even walk far. Let alone play sport of football, he plays football at a high level and is worried that he will lose his place on the team. He is getting quite anxious.
Surely if this was a problem with the synovial fluid, we would have been sent for ultrasound? If it is an injury, surely mri or similar of the soft tissues would give some answers?
I was wondering does anyone have any experience of this. I want to go back to the docs today and demand they do more, but to be honest our gp isnt that good, and I think she will just turn around and say he is just growing as she has every other time we have seen her.
