Husband and I decided we wanted to ttc in January. I came off the pill had my breakthrough pill. Then two more periods with a 55 day cycle. Last period was the last week of April since then no periods at all - no pregnancy. I went to the doctors in June. They did tests said my male hormone was slightly high but nothing to worry about. Everything else fine and that it’s normal to conceive up to 1 year or trying and if not then come back. Fast forward to now I still have no has a period. So no period since April- surely this is not normal and should be looked into? But as she said I shouldn’t worry till 1 year or ttc I don’t know if I should go back? I did have a smear test in April which came back all clear. But no period - making me so depressed now. Opinions please?

I'd go back - make it clear that the issue is the length of the cycles.

If you weren't trying to conceive but were using barrier methods of contraception with cycles that length you'd be worried and making an appointment

Squeekybummum · 05/09/2019 17:52

Yeah i agree, you should go back and ask to look in to why your cycles are so irregular/not at all. Maybe see a different doctor.

Since you're TTC it would be reasonable to go back and ask for investigations.

Thanks - I just feel like I’m not being taken seriously. I’ve had irregular periods most of my teenage years. I was always told it’s ok for now when you want to conceive we can look into it. And now I am I just feel like I’m being fobbed off.

Can I ask how old you are?

Candycrush426 · 05/09/2019 18:03

I’m 25

I understand it’s really disappointing as you want to start TTC but it’s very normal for periods to take a little while to settle after coming off contraception particularly if they were irregular before. Keep trying and use an app to monitor, after 6 months I would maybe consider seeing the GP. Having tests won’t necessarily pinpoint the issue and normally they don’t refer until a year of TTC.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 05/09/2019 18:10

Absolutely make an appointment if you feel you need to, but please don't be surprised if you're told it can take a while for your cycle to settle down after coming off the pill and that testing so soon (even though it feels like forever) is unlikely to give any meaningful results.

Good luck.

Sunshinelollipops1 · 05/09/2019 18:11

I was told it was 6 months with no period that was considered abnormal and they would investigate (its a year of no conceiving). I'd go back - focus on the lack of period rather then fertility per se.

Thanks everyone. I think I will give it till the end of this month. If no luck I will book myself in x
