to think we should have a shed?

we live in a temporary accommodation flat. i think we are the only temp tenants here everyone els is permanent if that makes sense.

anyway we asked our landlord about usingf the shed and he said we werent allowed to because we have adequate storage space. ok we have 3 small cupboards in the hall.

we want to declutter the flat and some of the stuff is in great condition so dont want to just throw it out. we want to do a car boot but at the mo our car is off the road which means as we havent got anywhere to put it all its still around us.

is it unreasonable to think that regardless of being temp or not the shed should come with the flat@?

Yes.

It's not your property. The landlord can do what he/she wants with the shed.

We've got them outside our building.

The HA doesn't allow tenants to use them.

Well, that's that. It's not ours to dictate.

tearsndtantrums · 08/08/2007 11:01

but i dont get it. the shed is clearly not in use according to our neighbour who is good friends with the owner of this flat the shed was cleared out ages ago. so there is an empty shed that we cant use.

who makes the rule is it the HA or the actual owner of the property?

The owner. He is leasing it to the HA who is in turn leasing it you.

It's not yours. You are not entitled to it.

He can do what he likes with it.

Even if you were an assured tenant, he could stipulate in the tenancy agreement that he doesn't want you using it.

Not yours to decide.

And let's face it, if he continues to get tenants in there who make a fuss about what they're getting, he'll end the deal he has with the HA and then there'll be one less flat to accommodate a family.

TAT

Look at it like this - if you were in a flat, and the flat above yours was empty, it wouldn't be yours to use, would it?

Well, it's kind of the same with the shed.

tearsndtantrums · 08/08/2007 11:16

im not making a fuss as such. im not hounding the ha or anything lol i was just wondering why we cant use it.

Because for some reason he says so.

Maybe he's got a skeleton in there or that.
