I was fired today. Part relief as I've been job hunting in order to leave, unfortunatley they got there first.
I've been sent my end of probation letter and contemplating a respectful short response.
So the back story.....It was a nightmare since I started.
No reference and DBS before I started and tried to blame it on me.
As such I couldn’t do anything for a few weeks and had to sit staring for 48 hours a week doing nothing. Whilst sitting there, I was criticized for getting up too many times for getting a drink and going to the toilet. After watching everyone using Facebook and Instagram on their phones for several days, I used mine and was told to put it away.
Upon shadowing, I was paired with 3 people. 1st didn’t talk to me and didn’t show me anything. 2nd the managers friend, preventing me from doing anything, stopped me answering phones and then complained I didn’t answer calls. Tried to take over my computer and openly complained she was teaching me. 3rd just chatted about previous work experiences.
A few weeks in, I discovered we are supposed to wear uniform. When I mentioned it, after spending £300 on office clothes, I was told “well didn’t you realise from the interview”, despite there being a mix and me not knowing peoples jobs.
A few weeks in, I was handed a loan contract for £450 mandatory training I had to pay for, which I wasn’t informed of. Upon complaining, I was told it was non-optional.
My first HR and managerial meeting was due to a complaint being made from one person, however I think it was the managers friend, saying I was discussing working time directives. I discussed the 48 hour week and that like my shifts there was at least 11 hour down time. They discussed 18+ hour days and little downtime and “its just what you do”. I was then told that because I apologised for HR messaging me on their day off that they were concerned I didn’t have a team attitude and not willing to chip in.
In this meeting, I raised my lack of training, unsuitable job contract and not having a job description. They said there isn’t training and the contract will be changed and a job description will be made up (still to receive it).
I received a basic induction 5 weeks in, and finally saw the hierarchy (having previously asked it after expressing I don’t know peoples job titles) and then having been there 11 weeks have not received any further training for my role. I even asked for SOPs and escalation policies to read through and told they have none.
I'm just short of 3 months in and have yet to receive my job description. I finally receive a job specific contract after asking about it. I did not recieve any information about how to reach my KPI bonus per shift, and often not given it. I was not informed what I am or not able to authorise.
I was also not informed of any workings or the company or taught anything in order to understand how to successfully operate. I am then criticized for not knowing and criticized for making mistakes on my self taught role, a role which they made for me to hire me.
Perhaps high expectations but I was set up to fail in my experience. I was fired for making mistakes which isn’t acceptable in a senior role. I said I didn’t apply for the senior role and in hindsight shouldn’t have taken it due to having no experience in the sector.
In addition to this excessive swearing, insulting and foul language used by colleagues and managers. In addition, a manager although in jest repeatedly punched a fellow colleague and it never looked super light as though jokingly.
I just feel I want to write something light to thank for the opportunity but also highlight a few tiny points
