To ask if this is a good choice

I have a wedding at the weekend and I have a choice of 2 dresses.

One knee length and another which is below.

I'm not sure, having been to so few weddings, if wearing a long tulle bridesmaid-y dress would be unsuitable. I love it, it feels amazing and hides all my lumps and bumps. However it is bridesmaid-y

The wedding colours are purple and I think silver so I won't be like the bridesmaids

Help!

If the colours are in no way similar then I think it is fine

Unshriven · 04/09/2019 08:16

Oh God, do not wear the long blue one unless you want to be the talk of the wedding, or you hate the bride or something.

snitzelvoncrumb · 04/09/2019 08:17

It's a beautiful dress, but a bit too bridesmaidy to wear to a wedding. Though it's such a nice dress it would be a shame not to. Sorry I'm no help. Can you put up a pic of the other one?

WaterSheep · 04/09/2019 08:20

Even if the other bridesmaids are in different colours, I think the blue dress is too much like those worn by bridesmaids. If I were a guest I would think you were a part of the bridal party.

dancemom · 04/09/2019 08:20

That's a bridesmaid dress

peachgreen · 04/09/2019 08:22

Yeah you'd look like a wannabe bridesmaid, sorry OP.

JellyfishAndShells · 04/09/2019 08:22

Is this in the UK ? Long dresses for guests are less usual here ( unless everyone is floating about in hipster maxis in the summer ) and that looks 100% like a bridesmaid dress, anyway .

DontForgetToDeadhead · 04/09/2019 08:22

Too bridesmaidy

palahvah · 04/09/2019 08:24

In this pic it's styled in a bridesmaidy way. if you style it with other accessories then you could wear it, but they would need to be something like a thin belt in a bright colour or pattern, bright earrings.

Have you got a jacket or similar?

PeriComoToes · 04/09/2019 08:25

Wear the knee length (unless it's white and lacy) the blue is too bridesmaids imo

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 04/09/2019 08:28

I can’t see the short one. The long one is beautiful. I think you could get away with it if you styled it with very unbridesmaid-y accessories and had your hair quite casual. I’ve been to plenty of weddings where guests wore similar and nobody cared.

StCharlotte · 04/09/2019 08:33

You'll be freezing.

PurpleDaisies · 04/09/2019 08:38

Are you a bridesmaid?

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2019 08:38

i too would think you were part of the bridal party/group wearing the blue dress. Just too bridesmaids for normal guest. Seems silly but there we are - there are many silly things which suddenly Matter at weddings !!

WhatsMyPassword · 04/09/2019 08:42

The blue one is awful for a wedding, it is far too bridal-party-esqe

georgialondon · 04/09/2019 08:44

Way too bridesmaidy.

Hahaha88 · 04/09/2019 08:47

God no you'd look like you have some weird anger that you weren't asked to be a bridesmaid

SerenDippitty · 04/09/2019 08:48

You could maybe get away with the blue dress if you wore it just for the evening do, but not for the wedding itself.

Davidbowiestrousers · 04/09/2019 08:48

No, that's a bridesmaids dress

Sparkletastic · 04/09/2019 09:00

God no - much too bridesmaid

WeddingGuest72 · 04/09/2019 13:05

Thanks everyone

I thought so. It's a shame as I love how it feels and looks. However dont want to be the focal point or distract from the main event
