To think this email sounds a bit... sarcastic?

Nc for this as it's outing as I've posted on my social media but cancel the cheque, screaming at the Sistine chapel, spiders rubbing willies on your washing line at night. I ordered some P plates for my car from Amazon as I've just returned to driving after a very long gap/have a bit of a driving phobia and building up my confidence at the moment.

This is the email I got to say it's been dispatched and while it made me laugh, and it's obviously intended to make it go viral I can't help but feel the tone feels horrendously sarcastic? AIBU or has the person that wrote this done it in a voice that's slightly "Oh! Well done you **"

Doesn’t sound funny to me, sounds twatty.

babysnowman · 03/09/2019 23:20

Yeah I think that's weird!

TanyaChix · 03/09/2019 23:20

It seems to be written by someone who writes copy for a living but who still can’t quite judge tone and register. Really over the top and naff.

toottoottoot · 03/09/2019 23:21

A good friend merely said "cunts" when I showed her Grin

It's just so... bizarre and for such a mundane item as well.

toottoottoot · 03/09/2019 23:22

Also the excessive use of exclamation points is deeply upsetting.

BrittleJoys · 03/09/2019 23:24

It’s nearly as annoying as those matey emails from “Johnny Boden’ if you buy so much as a child’s T-shirt.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 03/09/2019 23:24

You're right about the exclamation marks.

CircleofWillis · 03/09/2019 23:25

Um - I thought it was quite funny. It made me smile.

Rivkka · 03/09/2019 23:27

Nah that's shite.

Petrichor11 · 03/09/2019 23:29

Agree it’s ridiculous and probably hoping to go viral

The tone is just wrong for the type of business.

keepingbees · 03/09/2019 23:30

It's erm, interesting Hmm I think someone's trying to be viral sensation funny but has spectacularly failed. I agree it comes across as sarcastic and patronising.

toottoottoot · 03/09/2019 23:31

I think I'm probably being a tad touchy because I'm coming back to driving and it's s bit embarrassing but even a just passed 17 year old would probably think "wtf?"

Bobbobbo · 03/09/2019 23:32

I got almost exactly the same email when I ordered some t shirts from a company. I think it must be a new thing some companies are doing!

Bobbobbo · 03/09/2019 23:34

I have no idea how to upload a picture but I have copied and pasted my email.

“A candle was lit as your order was placed in to a bag made with the oil of the largest, most fearsome tyrannosaurus rex to have ever stalked the planet.

We then all stood around it and clapped for 10 solid minutes, tears were shed as we said goodbye and placed it on a golden shrine while we wait for the imperial guard to arrive and escort it to the post office.

As it leaves us you will get an email at the point that a fire arrow is launched in to the sky to commemorate it's passing from one life to the next. It is leaving Staffordshire and entering Valhalla where you will share many amazing memories with it.

We really hope that you enjoy your order as much as we did preparing it for you. We now have your picture on the wall as "Customer of the Year". It has been an emotional day but we really are excited for the next time you come to visit.

Thank you, we really mean it!”

Smidge001 · 03/09/2019 23:35

I thought it was amusing as a one off - though if it was a company I regularly bought from I'd find it incredibly annoying.

Bouledeneige · 03/09/2019 23:35

I think my DC's - in the 17 - 19 age group - would say WTAF wankers.

Its pathetic and alienating.

toottoottoot · 03/09/2019 23:38

Cor @Bobbobbo your ceremony pisses all over mine Grin I assume T-Rex based oil is a "plastic bag" Grin

OP posts:
putsomethingontheendofit · 03/09/2019 23:38

It's creepy and would make me feel so uncomfortable, I would be certain never to do business with them again!

Smidge001 · 03/09/2019 23:39

@Bobbobbo I'm afraid the one you received just isn't written as well - It's incredibly similar, but just way more clunky. You should write back and show them OP's message to shame them Grin.

Dollymixture22 · 03/09/2019 23:39

I have receive delivery from two different companies. Gave up reading halfway through. Some marketing company trying to be original.

Didn’t really bother me though.

toottoottoot · 03/09/2019 23:41

Haha @Smidge001 you'll make some poor freelance copywriter on Fiver.com cry with that Grin

OP posts:
CoolCarrie · 03/09/2019 23:52

That is really stupid and silly ! Ignore it and good luck .

Glitteryone · 03/09/2019 23:56

Trying and failing to be funny.

I just found it weird to be honest!

busybarbara · 03/09/2019 23:57

This is an almost to the letter ripoff of a company called CDBaby which did this fifteen years ago. Google it. So I hate it merely because it's plagiarism

Lily2811 · 03/09/2019 23:59

It just seems rude and unnecessary tbh! Probably just someone trying (and failing) to be funny.
