Neighbors talking over my fence

Ok so I was wondering how people would go on with their neighbors talking/shouting over yr fence?
Back story, I don’t get on with one neighbor after she started causing trouble and police constantly calling at the house. Now dealing drugs. Very toxic person but tries to come over all sweetness and nice.
The other side always been ok with but recently started being funny (toxic neighbor goes out of her way to talk to them) mainly because no one else will entertain her. Anyway he started saying we had stolen his land and a tree we had cut down was his. This caused me to contact the council as his is council house and also got deeds out and spoke to bloke we bought the house off who confirmed he followed the boundary line and came more to our side as he had built a shed on the boundary line.
So what I want to know is aibu In the fact I don’t want them talking over my fence when I’m in house with door open or in the garden.
I think it’s rude and disrespectful, also wondered if after all the trouble they have caused in the past if they were trying to gord/intimidate me?
If I’m out it’s not an issue but when we’re home it’s something you wouldn’t do.
Also guy thought I’d kicked other half out? Which I hadn’t??? So thinking he’s tried to intimidate me thinking I’m a woman on my own as there has never been an issue when he thought he still lived here. Other half works away so no car in week.

Put really loud music on whenever they start up, so they can't hear each other?

justmakemeacuppa · 02/09/2019 12:24

I did tell other half to go out with the strimmer. Lol

What do you want to do? You can’t stop people talking.
Only thing you can do is put fertiliser down one side of the fence so the smell isn’t bearable Grin or put up a higher fence but I believe 6 foot is the maximum? Or add a trellis.

Shakennotshook · 02/09/2019 12:30

6ft fence should do it

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 02/09/2019 12:42

You can’t stop them talking over your fence and I think you’re just making the problem worse if you try to - you’d a) rise to their bait if they are trying to annoy you and b) make yourself look very unreasonable and petty. All you can reasonably do is put up a higher fence. Don’t say anything as you’d maybe come across as the one being ridiculous.

Taller fence, trellis above existing fence or plant some hedging or trees to block them.

Clutterbugsmum · 02/09/2019 13:14

I'd put up some trellis a fast growing plant to block both neighbours.

Billballbaggins · 02/09/2019 13:17

6 foot wooden fence, bliss! Wouldn’t be without one now

MarySibleysFamiliar · 02/09/2019 13:23

Trellis on the top of the fence and some climbing plants. Sorted.

SavingSpaces2019 · 02/09/2019 13:49

Potted bamboo all along the boundary.
It grows quick - and tall.
They can try to shout over that.......

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 02/09/2019 14:00

Put a tennis net down the middle of your garden and get yourself an umpire's chair and referee their conversation Grin

PleasedToSeeYou · 02/09/2019 14:09

Very rude of them. Take a radio outside with you

starfishmummy · 02/09/2019 14:19

Check the deeds for fence height. Theres a covenant on ours so we can only go to 5 feet.

Juells · 02/09/2019 14:21

Have a sprinkler, one of those ones that throw water up quite high. Locate near fence. Turn on around the time they usually start chatting. As PP suggested, smelly fertiliser as well, think you can buy chicken shit pellets which should smell nice when watered. Or bone meal, does that smell?

Zakana · 02/09/2019 14:27

We have our garden enclosed with six foot fences, tends to stop them popping their heads over to have a chat, one of our neighbours is a complete nutter and the other side are just adorable OAPs. The back part have three huge Japanese fighting dogs, so very grateful for the huge fence in order to stop my hobby little twats of dogs getting eaten!

Zakana · 02/09/2019 14:27

Gobby not hobby sodding iPad!

justmakemeacuppa · 02/09/2019 15:16

Smell wise she has chickens, 3 house dogs and 3 house cats, and smokes skunk in the house. So she has covered all the bad smells lol. Fence wise we can go 8ft. Council woman agreed we could put it up and sympathised with us after talking to other neighbors. They are new fences so we’re thinking of putting a big shed up instead. If we change the fence it will be on her side as that’s our boundary fence and will over shadow her garden.
Neither work but both capable but the amount of lies they have both come out with they’ll never have to.
