To ask if anyone else gets back to work anxiety after the holidays?

NC for this as may become outing.

I will be going back to work on Tuesday and I'm dreading it. I know I will get no sleep tomorrow night for worrying. The odd thing is, I love my job and look forward to seeing the people I work with. I'm always fine once I get there but it still doesn't stop the fear at the end of every holiday.

Was just wondering if anyone else feels like this or if it's just me?

I'm exactly the same!

jesuschristwtf · 01/09/2019 22:50

I tend to work from home for a few days before going back into the office.

PurpleFlower1983 · 01/09/2019 22:53

If you work in a school 99.99% of your colleagues feel like this!

swanningpond · 01/09/2019 22:54

Not just you! I'm nervous - I took most of the 6 weeks off - I thinks that's a good and bad thing - too much distance makes you feel a little out of the loop but the break has been an absolute tonic.

I enjoy my job and love the people I work with too.

I think it's totally normal. Hope you get some sleep, try some mindfulness exercises before bed?

Good luck!

greensnail · 01/09/2019 22:56

Yes, I got no sleep at all the night before I went back to work after two weeks holiday. I love my job, I have a great team, most of them are close friends I had been communicating with while I was off anyway, so made no sense at all to feel anxious.

BeneathTheMist · 01/09/2019 23:00

Yep same.

Stonerosie67 · 01/09/2019 23:00

Yes, I feel totally the same. I enjoy my job, get on well with my colleagues, and I know once I'm back I'm fine, but right now I'm dreading it.

Yeahsurewhatever · 01/09/2019 23:02

Yes, and right now, total Sunday night dred. But I do actually like it once I'm there

AriadneCrete · 01/09/2019 23:03

I do. I aimed to be asleep two hours ago but I’m wide awake. I’m starting a new job tomorrow, so I have the added anxiety of that too.

Rhaegar · 01/09/2019 23:04

@PurpleFlower1983 I do work in a school

Thanks so much for all the replies, it's so reassuring to know I'm not the only one!

Me too. I work in a school and have been off 5 weeks.
Back tomorrow for an inset day so no kids but i m feeling nervous too plus i will have extra responsibility this year.
This time next week we will all be settled down hopefully Smile

Rhaegar · 01/09/2019 23:14

We will reckless it's just the thought of the thing. Forgot to mention that my only child is starting high school on Wednesday too, so added stress

I get it after even a day of annual leave. I have huge imposter syndrome and am convinced they'll discover a huge mistake I was unaware of etc. Better now I'm in medication and had CBT though.

dontcallmeduck · 01/09/2019 23:16

Me too. Also back on Tuesday and my mind turned to work on Thursday. I kept Tuesday morning free to catch up but hoping things haven’t been planned for me, I can’t cope with that yet.

SoMuchToBits · 01/09/2019 23:22

I get this. Although my work colleagues are great, and I generally enjoy my job once there, I really worry about going back when I have had time off.

I think that part of this is that I work on a hospital ward though, and the more time I have had off, the more the patients will have changed, so when I go back, there will be fewer patients I already know, and it will take me longer to catch up and get on top of what's happening.

Summersunshine2 · 01/09/2019 23:22

It's funny reading these comments as just last week I felt inexplicably sick the night before going back to work after holiday. No reason for it at all!

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 01/09/2019 23:26

Every single teacher/person who works in a school feels like this! I like my job, I am well prepared for the new term, I am (for once) feeling very little stress, but I still know I won't sleep tonight!

MommaJP · 01/09/2019 23:34

Every time I have time off I feel exactly like this !!!!

NaomiFromMilkShake · 01/09/2019 23:39

I am really good at my job, statement of fact, not a brag, but everytime I take two weeks off I go back with trepidation that they will have muddled through without me and make me redundant. It improved greatly once I passed the two year mark.

YesQueen · 01/09/2019 23:57

Same, even after the weekend. I have it too @Seren85 probably from a previous job
Mine is pretty bad so my lovely manager helps, if someone says "can I have a word?" I instantly feel sick so he will say "need to have a chat about X/Y/Z" and do it straight away

Seren85 · 02/09/2019 00:05

@YesQueen I once had a supervisor request to speak to me after lunch and no. I had to say no and to speak to me now or at least give me an agenda. Tbf she did enjoy throwing her weight around and enjoyed making people feel worried. My now boss is great and will say it is about X or at least nothing to worry about. I love going on holiday but find the lead up and going back very stressful because I don't have the sort of job that someone picks up when I leave.

LazyLizzy · 02/09/2019 00:13

I hate it because my work is still waiting for me, in-tray is huge after 2 weeks.

I tend to nip in on the Sunday while the office is empty to get a good head start, before I am bombarded on the Monday by my boss.

I only take 2 week holiday every other year, not worth the hassle. And God forbid I go away at month endShock.

MaryTeenOfScots · 02/09/2019 01:18

I get it after holidays (and the weekend to a lesser extent) too, even though I like my job and colleagues. I was the same while at school after holidays etc but my last job worsened it I think as I used to dread going in. I think it's a common feeling, it's a bit of a challenge having work responsibilities again after being on holiday, especially for a few weeks. I'm sure you will be fine though :)

SummerSix · 02/09/2019 07:11

No because I, like most people dont stop working over the summer holidays.
