Everything tastes better in Spain!

Day 2 of holiday and I'm in love with this country! and especially the food and drink ...

Grapes - tase a million times nicer here than UK! So so sweet, cotton candy taste. Delicious!!

Wine - so cheap!! So delicious! And no hangover!! (What crap do they put in the wine at home? And why?)

Nuts - so full of taste!!

Tomatoes - so sweet!!

Bread - soft and delicious!!!

Always thought UK food was nice, but now I don't want to return !!

AIBU to question why we pay so much money for such rubbish, headache inducing wine and bland food when elsewhere does it so much better!! (I guess I am! Spain grows the gorgeous grapes and has the climate I suppose!!)

Most wine we drink isn't British you know.

Bloomburger · 28/08/2019 18:06

No you're wrong it's Italy where everything tastes nicer.

ThisIsTheGreatestShow · 28/08/2019 18:43

I'd vote for France over most other places Smile

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/08/2019 18:45

Our local farm shop fruit and veg tastes much better than the supermarket. I think part of it is that its not chilled to death.

Campervan69 · 28/08/2019 18:45

I'm in Portugal ATM and everything tastes so much better here.

Fresh bread, pure butter, tasty eggs, freshly caught fish, a light vinho verde which again is so pure no hangover. The oranges are so sweet and delicious.

mbosnz · 28/08/2019 18:46

I'm with you, Spain all the way! The steak is to die for! The seafood! The fruit, the veges! The gluten free! And yes, the wine was so cheap.

And yet, despite us eating and drinking far too much, we came back fitter and healthier, and carrying less extra weight - go figure!

AgentProvocateur · 28/08/2019 18:47

I agree, OP. I’m lucky enough to have travelled extensively, and Spain, for me, is the best country.

bert3400 · 28/08/2019 18:50

The reason for no hangover is probably due to the heat. You sweat it out at night and wake up feeling chipper. I'm moving to Spain next year and agree with everything you said OP

mbosnz · 28/08/2019 18:55

We just had the most magical holiday there, doing absolutely nothing. But a big part of what we did was using the pizza oven and bbq, and cooking the local produce (yes, from a supermarket, not the glorious little local foodmarket I'd fondly pictured), and creating beautiful, but simple, meals. Oh gosh it was nice.

Of course,we're a family that's very focussed on its stomach. . .

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 28/08/2019 18:59

I love Spanish food but I'd argue with you about the bread. It's really weird and sweet.

Roselilly36 · 28/08/2019 18:59

You are so right OP. I love Spain.

nickEcave · 28/08/2019 19:08

We were in Spain last year and France this summer - the food in both was so much better than UK. Probably largely due to the produce traveling less far to get to shops

Shockers · 28/08/2019 19:13

I love the fresh food in Madeira. The fish and the fruit are delicious!

Shockers · 28/08/2019 19:13

And Italian wine...

UrsulaPandress · 28/08/2019 19:15

Could it be the climate🤔

weebarra · 28/08/2019 19:23

I love Mallorcan food. Both the cuisine and the ingredients!

MrBrightside1980 · 28/08/2019 19:25

Agree 100% OP! Everything is better in Spain, Period

makingmammaries · 28/08/2019 19:26

Spain is great but when you go to small eateries the dessert menu is full of prepackaged industrial cack.

PooWillyBumBum · 28/08/2019 19:27

Feel that way in France too. Especially about vegetables. They just taste more vegetable-y!

You’ve lost me on the wine though. I drink the same stuff here or on the continent, rarely drink an English wine (only fizz). A good proportion of your experience is probably down to being chilled and on hols!

goose1964 · 28/08/2019 19:28

It's Greek for me I've never see veg so big and tasty. Their wine has really improved in the last 30 years, although some of the best is the the stuff you buy from the barrels in the tavernas, often made by the taverna owners with their own grapes.

Cryalot2 · 28/08/2019 19:35

I love the country and the people

CilantroChili · 28/08/2019 19:50

It’s France 100% for me 🇫🇷✨🇫🇷 The variety, quality and presentation of food and drink is off the charts. The bread. The Patisserie. The ice cream. The cheese. 😍
I’m running away from home for a month next year come hell or high water

Sexnotgender · 28/08/2019 19:52

The reason for no hangover is probably due to the heat. You sweat it out at night and wake up feeling chipper.

Oh that’s interesting!

I was in Spain in July and had 1/2 bottle of wine and several large gins every night and not a sniff of a hangover. If I’d done the same at home I’d have been rough😂

Sexnotgender · 28/08/2019 19:53

And yes Spain is great for food but Italy is really where it’s at. Went on my honeymoon to Italy and it was amazing.

Oldraver · 28/08/2019 19:59

I think all the fruit we get here is picked before it's ripe then chilled too much.

Ive had freshly picked orange and grapefruit juice (hotel had their own trees) in Italy that didnt make me wince. Fruit picked when it should be
