To give up on feeding my children

.....a healthy meal and let her eat a chocolate bunny instead?!

We have been away so meal times and bedtimes have been a bit out the window. DH wanted DD to catch up on sleep so let her sleep 4-5 whilst insisting he would take her to bed at 8pm. No way she will be ready to sleep then.

I have made home made curry and rice. I marinated then froze the chicken to give me a head start. First hubby pipes up that he thinks the spices haven't been cooked out enough before the tomato was added.

Then DD says she is too tired to eat. So I have literally just given her a chocolate bunny which of course she is not too tired to eat. Yes I am being sarcastic and no I shouldn't expect a 4 year old to know better but I am at the end of my tether.

So I have taken a cup of tea and biscuits into the living room, said I'm not to be disturbed and shut the door.

Sounds like a plan. Flowers

SalrycLuxx · 27/08/2019 17:55

Sounds fair. Smile

GreenTulips · 27/08/2019 17:57

Clearly you’re amateur

Where’s the wine?

Whitegrenache · 27/08/2019 17:57

Totally fair

This is the number one Bain of my life

Every day "What's for tea"

I reply "shit with sugar on"

DC and DP "we don't like that"

On holiday at the moment and I have let them eat whatever they want

Pizza every fucking day

MrsSiba · 27/08/2019 18:12

A unanimous result!

God knows how much worse meal times will be next week when school starts.

I will stock up on chocolate. Maybe having it for tea every night may make it significantly less appealing.

@greentulips non alcohol drinker here but I definitely understand those waiting for wine o' clock. 😆

Yes whitegrenache let them eat whatever shit they want.

I can't think anymore about whether a meal is balanced, how much sugar they've already had or put up with the whining when faced with a plate of food other people would give their right arm for.

Perfectly reasonable.

The other day after a slightly late return from a day trip I couldn't face the inevitable disdain and disgust at all the perfectly good food I had on offer so I gave mine bread rolls and sweets for tea and sloped off to the other room with a glass of room to pretend to myself that I'd given them something really nutritious. I even convinced them it was a marvellous special treat!!! Hurrah!!!

Meals and food are the bane of my life at the moment. If I'm not serving food to a chorus of, "I don't like that," then I'm being pestered for food, planning a meal, buying the food for that meal, preparing the meal or bloody tidying up after it. Then I've got to do it all over again a few hours later. I've had enough!

My dc are helping (I use that term loosely) to cook, serve and clean up but omfg! If I didn't have to feed them I wouldn't bother! This last 6 weeks they've had sandwiches every day instead of a cooked meal at midday, sometimes even shop bought ones. Quite a few times, more than I dare to admit on here, I've just opened a can and served whatever's inside on some toast.

I'd chocolate will do, do it. It's only once and it won't have any lasting damage. When she's moans that she's hungry later on then remind that you offered proper food but that she refused it!

SpeedyShutter · 27/08/2019 18:42

If not I'd!

Imonlydoingwhatican · 27/08/2019 18:49

Everyday im moaned at for what ive chosen to cook. I have 2 veggies one half veggie (dont ask) and 3 meat eaters. So im making 2 different meals each time (sometimes ita the same with veggie options) anyway my rule is if you dont eat what i cook then make a sandwhich blah blah blah...... every time to the chorus of " im not making a sandwhich"
"then go without"
" so you are going to let me starve then"
"No, theres food right there, youre chosing not to eat"
Lets not forget she stuffed herself silly all day with various food items...
Only saving grace is teen will cook for herself, but wont clean up after herself..
Hmm

Full veggie, half veggie, full meat, half meat..... Not sure I could cope with that many variables.

I keep finding lovely recipes to make hoping I'll find a win.

We were never this fussy when we were younger.

Btw felt very liberating to not care whether the food was eaten or not and the cuppa tasted GOOD 🤣🤣

Isn't the weaning advice that it's our job to prepare and present food and the little darlings job to choose whether to eat it Hmm
