In thinking my mum should have phoned on ds's 1st b'day?

My mum lives 5/10 mins away, she hung up on me yesterday over something silly (a bit of banter about a bloody pressure washer!) and today (ds's 1st b'day) she hasn't phoned never mind come round

I know ds doesn't know anything about it, but AIBU in thinking she could have made a little effort? she hasn't even sent him a card FFS!

Oh actually i forgot to mention, i actually said on MSN to her "nice of you to phone on George's b'day" her answer was "he can't talk, he's 1"

Seems odd that she hasn't sent a card?! Would she have sent it in the post or done it by hand? (Mine would've done it by post despite probably coming over on the day, when she was living in the country LOL)

Maybe you should phone her and just let her know that it was all silliness y'day and to just forget it, it's not worth dragging out into a serious matter!

Of course ds doesn't understand, but i had told dd (3.6yo) that we would have a little party for him, we ended up on our own all day.

Might be easier for you to just forget it and let her approach you when she's ready then, have done this with mine on many occasions (she's a little odd and usually starts chatting again after a couple of weeks like nothing happened LOL meaning she got over it)

Not sure what sort your mum is but it's not worth getting too upset over, afterall it's her problem and you've got your DC to thnik about

I know how you feel. My mother 'forgot' my dd's 2nd birthday (depsite being an easy date to remember )...I think it shows a lack of care, basically. If it mattered that much, they would have rang/sent a card. It really hurt me too, especially since it took me ages to conceive her. In the end, afetr phoning her to say that her grandaughter was now going to bed and would she like to wish her 'Happy birthday', I just let it go...though my expectations of my mother have now lowered (probably as some defence mechanism). Sad, but there it is. You mother's reaction sounds like mine's..they know they've done something hurtful and so they refashion it as not mattering so they don't look so bad...it's partly to do with convincing themselves.
