To think Croydon University Hospital is still as bad as it once was?

Thinking of articles back in 2011/2012 on their maternity unit and their nickname as "may die" instead of Mayday. It's all quite horrifying.

I see recent articles about how great it now is etc. But does anyone actually have recent experience of the maternity there? Caesarien in particular.

I feel like I will do anything to avoid going there and I don't know if I'm being unreasonable.

How do you expect a forum as large as this, with people from all over, to vote on a hospital they've never been to?

Why don't you read the last inspection report ? And make rational balanced judgment? Or - this is mind blowing - ask some people who have recently used the services there?

I had a largely good experience in 2012 - but suspect that is not recent enough for you.

I had a great experience having DS in the MLU in 2016.
2 NCT friends had c-sections in 2016 there and both chose to go back again to have their 2nd babies (also c-sections) in 2018 and 2019.

@IAskTooManyQuestions sorry maybe my question isn't appropriate... I have read all those reports but they mean very little. It doesn't mention crowding, stress, things going wrong etc. I don't know anyone who's gone there and this forum is the only place...

I had my dd there and can’t fault them- 2013. I couldn’t fault them and would go there again.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 26/08/2019 22:12

I’m pregnant now and transferred my care out of Croydon and over to East Surrey (Redhill). Croydon lost my blood results, made racist comments about my family’s names, rang the hell out of me to rearrange appointments that I’d already rescheduled...no way would I trust them with actually delivering my baby. I’m so much happier with East Surrey.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 26/08/2019 22:13

And they tried to pressure me into agreeing to a home birth despite my first DC’s birth being very traumatic.

Mummoomoocow · 26/08/2019 22:16

My birth experience in 2018 was traumatic. I would never go there by choice. If you truly want details I’ll delve into it but I wasn’t even offered to talk about my experience so I don’t think I ever got over it.

Just a minor example: they tried 18 times to cannula my newborn. 18 needle holes. 18 tiny bruises. Who fucking gets to 10 and keeps trying?

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 27/08/2019 16:45

You’ll get a range of reviews but I had a terrible experience there in 2017 giving birth to my son. It’s put me off hospital birth entirely.
