To be told 'If you don't like something in your life, change it. It's easy.'
Aibu to think its not that simplistic?

I would say it is that simple - but not necessarily that easy, those two words don’t mean the same to me. But I do think making changes in general is often easier than most of us anticipate.

Andysbestadventure · 24/08/2019 17:25

It is always that simple. It's just the emotional or physical effort that isn't easy.

Pipandmum · 24/08/2019 17:25

It’s not easy. But it’s possible.

allthingsred · 24/08/2019 17:28

I think pink summed it up perfectly.
It is that simple but it's not necessarily easy.
When I've applied it to my life.. it took a massive amount of courage. & chickened out 3 times before I did it.

BigFatLiar · 24/08/2019 17:37

Not so sure, depends on what it is in your life you don't like.

Don't like your job, change it, fair enough. May mean lifestyle changes but there you go.

Feel trapped caring for a child/partner/relative who needs 24 hr care, not so easy to get away from.

I think it all depends on the situation.

TabbyMumz · 24/08/2019 18:14

Ridiculous. What about illness. You can't change that.

PullingMySocksUp · 24/08/2019 18:15

I’d probably say ‘change it or stop whinging about it!’

Sparklesocks · 24/08/2019 18:16

I think it depends what it is. There are absolutely some things you can’t do anything about. But there are often other things you can with hard work persistence, but that person isn’t able/willing to commit.

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/08/2019 18:18

Depends what it is. Hate your job? At least look for a different one. Hate your husband? Get a divorce. Hate your feet? Can’t do much about that but a pedicure might help. Hate having allergies? Moan away, that sucks.

BackforGood · 24/08/2019 18:24

You are right - it depends on what it is you are talking about.
BigFatLiar's example is a great one.

JacquesHammer · 24/08/2019 18:25

It depends what the thing is! Sometimes it really is that simple.

Ineedtoknowit · 24/08/2019 18:30

Depends what it is! There can be no other answer here. Some things are easy to change, some are harder

daisyboocantoo · 24/08/2019 18:32

How does 'put up or shut up' sound as an alternative?

Things are as complicated as you make them.

WhenPushComesToShove · 24/08/2019 18:33

I was extremely unhappy about something in my life and I did make huge changes because of it. Now I'm much happier and wonder why I didn't make the changes sooner

lawnmowingsucks · 24/08/2019 18:38

Making changes isn't always easy

but it's very simple that that is the only way to stop the things you don't like about your life

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got

dollydaydream114 · 24/08/2019 18:39

Depends what the thing is. A lot of changes require financial wherewithal that people simply don’t have (certain types of career change, for example) or have a horrible impact on others around you.

The main thing in my life I’d like to change is financially impossible and even if we could afford it, it would be horribly selfish. So no, not remotely simple.

BrunettesDoItBetter · 24/08/2019 18:57

Finances can't be changed just like that but I believe relationships can be i.e leave if you're unhappy
